Detention

The boys left for detention about thirty minutes ago and I'm sitting in the common room with Theo and Enzo. They're going on and on about something that happened while Enzo was gone but my mind was far away. Well.. not really far but not with this conversation.

"I'm going to Remus," I say out of no where and both boys stop what they're talking about and looking at me.

"Are you okay?" Theo asks me and for a brief moment I was going to tell him but then I just smiled and nodded.

"I'm okay Theo, I just want to talk to Remus." I say. He looks at me sadly but nods his head.

Remus was sitting at his desk when I made it into his classroom. I see Malfoy and Zabini, and Harry sitting in a desk, writing an essay.

When they heard the door open, all of their heads then towards me. Malfoy and Zabini look genuinely happy to see me in there. Harry does not though.

"Get back to your work, you three." Remus says to the boys and then he looks to me. "Hello, kid."

"Is this a bad time?" I ask him. Of course he shakes his head and motions for me to come in.

"I just... I don't know. I kind of need to talk and you're the only one I can go to.."

"It's not a problem at all, I'm here for you." Remus says to him. "You're obviously going through a lot since you found out about your dad escaping."

"Yeah, and I know everyone has their own opinions on all of that but he's my dad. I love him and I believe what he told me."

"What did he tell you?" Remus asks me. I can feel eyes on me from behind me but I ignore them.

"He told me that he didn't do it. That he could never do that to his best friend," I say. I've never told Remus that... or anyone. Remus looks like he wants to say something to me but he's keeping his mouth shut about it.

"He is your father so you have every right to believe him or love him."

"I know, I just hate how everyone is talking about him and making me feel like shit for... well for believing him."

Remus sighs, nodding her head in understanding.

"You shouldn't feel bad for any of that kiddo," Remus says softly to me.

"I know but it is what it is," I say to him. He nods his head.

"What are you doing tonight?" Remus asks me.

"Well my friends are in detention and the other two are being boring back in the common room.. so I suppose I'm free," I say to him. I turn back once to give a knowing look to Zabini and Malfoy and then look back at Remus.

"Alright, your friends might not be in detention much longer. It depends how long it takes them to finish that essay they're being forced to work on." Remus says, sending knowing looks at the boys and then smiling at me.

"Alright, I'm going to explore the school a bit before curfew then." I say to Remus, but really I'm saying it to the boys behind me.

"You have fun then, and make sure you're back in the common room by curfew." Remus instructs me.

"You worry about me too much Remus," I say to him as I turn to walk away.

"And Cameron?"

I turn around and look at him, "yeah?"

"Your father loves you. Regardless of what he did or didn't do in his past," Remus says to me.

"Thanks," I say to him.

"And I'm proud of you," Remus adds.

"That means a lot, thanks."

"Of course, now go on and get out of here. Go make some mischief."

"If you say so," I say to him as I start heading towards the door. "It would help if you'd release my friends though."

"Get out of here," Remus says to me and I smirk. "You are so much like your bloody father," he mumbles on my way out.

"I'll take that as a compliment," I shout to him on my way out.

Walking around the school and getting to explore it, finally, makes me feel happy. I can imagine my father and his friends running around causing trouble perfectly. I know what they all look like because of the picture I have from Remus so it's really not that hard to picture.

The school is truly beautiful in the morning. I've seen it once when I couldn't sleep but it was only a quick one. Now I have time to explore things on my own with a lot of extra time on my hands.

This school makes me feel so connected to my father and I've only been here a few days.

Everywhere I go, I can picture him being there. Of course there's no real connections besides Remus and some of the professors. There's no proof that he's been here. No little hint of him.

It wasn't long until Malfoy and Zabini find me wandering around the school. I was close to the astronomy tower when they found me.

"Well if it isn't our favourite person," Zabini says dramatically when the two of them catch up to me.

"You are our favourite entertainment during detention," Malfoy adds.

"Ah, anything for you two." I say to them and they both smile. "How was detention?"

"Long and boring," Zabini admits. "Until you came in."

"What can I say? I'm the best friend you've got."

"My mother would love you," Malfoy says to me. It was a little out of no where and it surprised me but also made me smile.

"Oh yeah? Why is that?"

"You're so much like her," Malfoy admits and again, I smile.

"Then I can't wait to meet her," I say to him honestly. I can not wait to meet her. My aunt. My family.

"Tomorrow? Dinner at my place? You can meet your aunt and uncle," Malfoy says to me.

My face must've given away how I truly feel about his offer because Malfoy smiles at me.

"I'm in," I say to him.

"Good, I'll write to my mother and pick you up tomorrow at 3. Enzo will probably come with us probably. He always comes home with me. He basically lives with me."

"Good, more people means less scary," I say.

"You have nothing to worry about. Truly."

"Did you mean what you said in there? That you believe that your father is innocent?" Zabini asks me.

"Yes," I reply.

"How are you so sure?"

"He told me himself."

"And you just took his word?" Malfoy asks me.

"I may not know him very well but anyone can tell from the stories and the pictures that he loved James. They were like brothers."

"You're very trusting," Malfoy says.

"Not usually but when it comes to my father, I am."

"I hope you're right," Malfoy admits. "Because you clearly love him. I don't want you to get hurt because of him lying."

"Malfoy is going soft!" Zabini shouts as he begins racing back to the common room. Malfoy scowls and sends hexes at his friend as he ran down the hall. I follow and laugh at how childish they both are. Childish but very funny.
