Since I came near the end of the year last year, I didn't see the feast or sorting ceremony. The guys warned me that the first five minutes are fun, but then it gets boring. Of course I didn't believe them though because they complain about everything. Turns out... they were right. The first few kids were entertaining to watch get sorted but after that... boring.
So after we ate and watched a little of the ceremony, we snuck out the back of the hall and went back to the common room. Luckily, most people were in the great hall so the common room was pretty much empty besides some ghosts and seventh years.
"Okay, I'll admit it. That wasn't nearly as fun as I thought it would be." I say to the guys. Theo and I sit down on a couch, Draco on one of the chairs, Enzo and Zabini on another couch. "You'd think since they have literal magic that they'd make it more... entertaining."
"Right, but at least we're doing that... what was it called?" Theo asks.
"That competition thing that the old git was going on about?" Enzo asks him.
"Yeah," Theo mumbles. "That."
"That sounds kind of fun." I add.
"My father says it's supposed to be a huge honour to be picked," Draco says proudly. "But he also says people die from it most of the time."
"Kids die from it but they continue to do it?" I ask.
"Oh yeah, welcome to the wizarding world." Blaise says to me and we all laugh.
"Seems kind of fucked up," I say in between my laughing.
"No one claimed that it wasn't fucked up," Enzo says with a cheeky smile. "Aren't you glad you came here?"
"Oh yeah," I say try him. "Seems really safe."
"You went to muggle schools before this?" Enzo asks me. "I think that's fucking weird but is it much different?"
"You mean besides the magic part?" I ask and he laughs and nods his head. "The people are pretty much the same. Some of them are really mean and some are okay."
"And who's mean here?" Blaise asks, eyeing me carefully.
"Take one guess who she's referring to," Draco says drily and then motions over to the door of the common room. The door is just closing again after Parkinson and another girl walk in.
"That was scary good timing," I say and Draco smirks. "Yeah, her and those Gryffindors."
"Honestly she's not that bad once you get to know her but at first she's defensive," Enzo defends her.
"All I've seen is her being mean," I say. "Who's the other girl she's with?"
"That's Daphne, she's actually pretty cool." Blaise answers. "Her sister is our friend too. Although for one of us it may be more than friends."
"Blaise how many times do I have to tell you that we're just friends!" Draco says, his voice giving away how annoyed he is with that accusation. Clearly not the first time it's been said.
"If she's so great, why is she hanging out with Parkinson? No offence but she's kind of brutal."
"They've been friends since they were kids so whether Parkinson is... brutal? She doesn't see her that way." Blaise explains. "And they're coming this way.. with Riddle too."
"Great," I say under my breathe. I do want to meet Daphne but I don't want to deal with Parkinson and Riddle's bullshit right now. The three of them come right over to us, Daphne leading and the other two following awkwardly.
