Since I was new last year, I don't have nearly enough of the things I need for the next year. A full year. Now I have to go to diagon alley to get everything and I sent a letter to my father the other day asking if he wants to come with me. I got a letter back saying he can't because he has other things to do. I didn't even tell him a date. Narcissa and Lucius are going to take me now. Draco needs a few things too this year, new quidditch gear and new books for the classes he's taking this year. Since they're already going down, they said it would be great for me to come with them. Remus gave me some money a while ago, some wizarding money so I can afford everything I need to get.
Draco was going on and on at breakfast with how excited he is to finally play quidditch, and if I join the team, they might actually have a complete team this year. I reminded him that Theo's going out for the team too this year which only made him more excited. His cousin and his best friend joining the team. Apparently that's a good thing. Narcissa smiles as Draco goes on and on about it all. Lucius on the other hand looks like he wants to use one of those silencing charms on him right about now.
Enzo shows up half way through breakfast and joined Draco in the talking. Of course Enzo being Enzo, took every opportunity to make fun of him with me as well. It was fun.
"Okay, that's enough of the talking. Go and get ready. We're leaving in 15 minutes." Lucius says as he storms off from the table.
Draco and Enzo shake their head as they watch Lucius run off down the hallway. Then the two of them take off, leaving just me and Narcissa in the dining room.
"How are you doing, Cameron?" Narcissa asks me as she stands up and begins clearing the table.
"I'm okay, a little exhausted from that meal. Draco and Enzo can be a lot some days."
"Yes they can be," Narcissa smiles. "Are you ready for this year?"
"I am, yeah. A little nervous and upset that Remus won't be there this year." I say honestly and she nods in understanding. "The new teacher that is supposed to be there is supposed to be a good teacher, but he's not Remus."
"You'll be fine, don't worry about any of it." Narcissa says to me. I help her clear some plates.
"I'm not worried, just not sure what to expect." I admit to her.
"I get that," Narcissa smiles. "You'll probably feel better once we get all of your stuff and you're on the train with your friends."
"Yeah, you're probably right."
"Go on and get ready," she says to me. "I'll finish clearing the table. Thank you for your help."
"Okay," I say to her and start heading up towards my bedroom so I can get changed. At least Narcissa has been there for me. She's looked out for me all summer, checked in on me every time my father cancels on plans. Even when I insist i'm fine, she makes sure I know I can go to her whenever I need her.
I throw on my favourite flannel over a different shirt this time and put on some jeans. Narcissa took me out to get some clothes early in the summer because I really didn't have that much.
Once i'm dressed, I go right back down to the dining room to see Narcissa and Lucius standing at the table talking.
Enzo and Draco aren't back down yet.
"Of course he doesn't show up, he has never been the responsible type. You know that!" Lucius says to Narcissa in a whispered yell.
"Lucius! He has a child now and he has to take responsibility for her. I know she needs him, and as much as I would love to just let him off the hook and take care of her... she needs him."
