New Girl (Camilo x Reader)

Party time

As soon as the mother of the pair notice us step into the room she stands up.

"Ahh Camilo!" She walks over and gives him a hug, "You have grown so much!"

All Camilo does is pat the woman on the back and smile.

"You remember my daughter Ana?" The woman waves her daughter to come over

Camilo and Ana exchange a smile.

"Oh and this is y/n," Camilo says looking at me, "y/n's staying with us for awhile"

I smile, "So nice to meet you both" I say, trying to sound happy.

The mother gives me a nod and a smile before turning to Camilo, "The big nineteen! How does it feel birthday boy"

"The same as eighteen" Camilo laughs

We talk for a short while as we wait for the rest of the family to join us, I can't help but notice that Ana's mother seems more excited to be here than Ana herself.

The chairs have been moved so that I am no longer sitting next to Camilo, but beside to Ana, as Camilo is sandwiched between Ana and her mother. After a moment Abuela stands and makes an announcement to the table.

"I hope that everyone has gotten a chance to give Ana and her mother, Maria, a warm welcome. They will be spending the day with us to celebrate Camilo's nineteenth birthday!"

Everyone claps for Camilo and wishes him a quick happy birthday before Abuela starts speaking again.

"I want tonight to be perfect, everyone has their jobs to do," She is speaking to the table but looks me in the eye, "Don't mess this up"

I just roll my eyes. Everyone begins their own conversations ad start their meal. As I'm eating Ana leans closer to me and whispers.

"Is Abuela always like that?"

"What do you mean?" I say quietly

"She's acting as if she owns the place"

I laugh, "Yeah, she does that"

Ana laughs, I notice that Ana's mother has been chatting Camilo's ear off ever since we sat down.

"Is your mother always like that?" I ask Ana

She looks over then leans back to me, "Oh yeah, all the time"

I smile when Ana speaks again, "Don't mind me asking, but why are you staying here?"

"Long story" I say, Ana nods her head and drops the subject.

After everyone is done, we all split up to decorate the Casita for tonight's party. I was partnered with Luisa to put up balloons. We both blow up the balloons then Luisa lifts me up to place them in tall parts of the house.

I look over at Camilo and Ana who were partnered together, setting up the food and drink tables. They are chatting and laughing, I can't help but feel a sting of jealousy.

"You like him a lot, don't you?"

I look back at Luisa who had just asked that question.

"Um yeah, I do" I say, I've given up on lying to myself.

"He likes you too" She says, "I can tell by the way he looks at you when you aren't looking"

I smile, "Yeah, but Abuela wants him to be with Ana" I sigh, "Some things just are't meant to be"

"I wouldn't sweat it, considering he's looking at you right now"

I pause for a moment before turning my head in his direction, he is looking at me. I give him a small wave, and he winks at me. My stomach erupts with butterflies. I look at Luisa and she's just laughing.
