Sandhu House

The living room turned deathly silent, as they all looked at the ring in a daze. Rupy and Satti stumbled a little. Satti slumped on the couch when realization dawned upon her, while Rupy leaned onto Dilraj.

The Virks couldn't believe their eyes. Khushbeer felt that he could not breathe properly. However, the most shocked were Fateh and Jasmine. Fathe felt like the world was crumbling, 'Tejo is...Tejo is engaged? She...She move... No..." He felt his head spin and leaned onto the sofa for support.

'Tejo is engaged?' Jasmine mused, 'But mummy didn't tell me...Does she like a foreigner? He must be rich.' Jasmine longingly looked at the ring. She recognized that gem. It was Tejo's favorite, cornflower Sapphire. When they were kids she didn't realize how expensive it was. When Fateh denied the ability to buy it for her, she came to know that not anyone could afford it. On top of that, she could tell that the surrounding stones were diamonds with the way they glimmered. Real diamonds. 'She always gets the good things,' Jasmine gritted her teeth.

"Tejo," Rupy spoke up, "what are you saying?"

"That's why I was here Papa," she explained, "I wanted to tell you all that I am engaged and that the wedding is in one and half months from now..."

"Don't speak nonsense," Satti stood up and held her arms tightly, "you didn't tell us about the boy. How can you suddenly get engaged?"

"Exactly," Khushbeer walked forward, "puttar we don't know the boy, what if he is bad..."

"I have known him for seven years," she cut him off, "and I can guarantee you that bad is not a word anyone would use to describe him."

"Maybe apart from his rivals," Abhiraj muttered making Tejo glare at him.

"Why didn't you tell us when you got engaged?" Satti questioned frantically, "Are you being forced?"

"Haa puttar," Gurpreet said, "if it's anything like that, don't worry. We have your back."

"Wow," Tejo clapped, a fire ablazed in her eyes, "when you find a boy for me despite my opinion not even being considered, that's not forcing me. But when I find someone for myself, there must be something to it, right?"

"If there is not, then why didn't you tell us before?" Lovely demanded.

"Because I advised her against it," Abhiraj answered.

"Tujhe pata tha?" Lovely and Jasmine asked.

"Yes, and I have spoken to Jiju as well," he replied.

"Why did you hide it?"

"I didn't want Tejo and Jiju to be pressurized by you all for marrying immediately," he replied, "they needed their time..."

"Time?" Lovely and Satti scoffed, "What did they need time for?"

"Neel and I...I am not going to explain anything to you. I am engaged, and happily so. That's the end of it," Tejo sighed.

'She is happily...No, she is lying,' Fateh shook his head and breathed in, 'she made this up so that they don't force her...Yes...That's it, that's why she is...She isn't engaged. My Tejo isn't engaged.'

"It's not the end of it," Satti said, "we don't know that boy, hence this engagement isn't val..."

"I am not giving you an option," Tejo interrupted her, "you don't have an option, but to accept it. As for knowing him? He will be coming to India soon." She glanced at all of them before rushing upstairs.

"Lo ji," Nimmo taunted, "Tejo bhi bighad gayi. She has become so..."

"Virk Saheb," Rupy folded his hands, "I think it would be better for you all to leave."
