"Hey, Nicole." Evan said, smiling.

"Hi, Evan. Ross, Mikayla. What's going on?"

"Oh, Mikayla was just talking to us for a little bit. Is something wrong here..?" Ross asked.

"Oh, everything is just peachy." I said in a sarcastic voice.

"Okay....I would rather not be in the middle of this, so....I'm gonna go." Ross said, trying to get up, but I grabbed his arm.

"No, stay. I want you to see this." I reply.

"So what were you talking about with them, Mikayla?" I continue, facing the girl who's caused everything.

"Oh, just....each other. Just getting to know each other a little bit." She said. She flashed a smile at the two of them, and it's like they were mesmerized by her. Ugh. It may seem like I'm only acting like this because I'm jealous and I like them too, but it's not that. I'm actually saving them from something that can break them in seconds. If they fall for her, it won't end well. I just don't want them getting hurt. If it was anyone else that liked them, it wouldn't be this bad. Not at all.

"I'm sure you were. Mikayla, I need you to stay away from my friends. Got it?" I asked her.

"What?" She looked dumbfounded.

"Do I need to spell it out for you? Stay. Away. From. Me. And. My. Friends. Okay? Okay." I replied to her.

"Nicole, chill out! She's cool." Evan said. Oh, no.

"No, she's not. She's not who you think she is." I say, getting angry. My voice started breaking. No...no, not Evan. Anyone but Evan.

"Nicole, what are you talking about?" He said, touching my arm. I slapped his hand away.

"She's not what she makes out to be! She's just a jerk, and she thinks she can have whatever she wants, whenever she wants." I say.

"I don't know what your talking about, Nicole. She's just a girl, who wants to be friends with all of us." He said, trying to grab me as I turned away. I slapped his hand again.

"Fine! If you don't want to believe me, then just stay with her." I said, and walked away tears forming in my eyes. She may have won this time, but trust me. She's not getting what she wants. Not this time, not ever. Just then, Alyssa and Kylie came running up to me, Bryce and Josh trailing behind them.

"Are you okay?" Alyssa asked me.

"We saw what happened with Mikalya, Evan and Ross..." Bryce said.

"Yeah, everything's just great! One of my really good friends just chose to believe someone they just met over me, and the best part of everything? I like him! And Mikayla claims to like him too. I'm just having the greatest day of my life, thank you very much." I said pulling all the anger and sarcasm I had out of me, and just letting it all out. The second I was done I just broke down. I landed on my knees, and started bawling. Bryce just picked me up, and put me on a bench next to the 4 of them. They comforted me until Evan came up to me, and asked if we could talk.

"I don't think that's such a good idea right now" Josh said to him.

"Look, I just want to talk to her real quick. Is that so wrong?" He asked.

"Well, does it look like she wants to talk right now?" Alyssa slightly yelled. Evan just looked at me, and walked away. I got up, and ran to the cabin. But someone stopped me. It was Ross.

"Hi...are you okay?" He asked me.

"Does it look like I'm okay?" I asked him.

"True...but what happened back there? With Evan and Mikalya?" He asked me.
I hesitated.

"It's just that Mikayla always does this with guys. She says she likes them, dates them, and then just dumps them. I don't want that happening to you, or Evan. But Evan clearly doesn't care. I told him she wasn't what he thinks, and he didn't believe me. I'm one of his best friends, and he decides to stick with someone he just met, instead of me. I thought he actually cared. But I guess I was wrong."

"Well, if you ask me, he's an idiot for choosing her over you," he said. I smiled.

"There's that smile I've been waiting to see," he said, and gave me a hug. Everyone else noticed we wanted to be alone, so said bye, and walked away. This is just what I needed. Ross and I just sat down, and talked for a little while, and as we talked, I got thinking.....all this time I was focusing on Evan, when all I really needed was just a little talk with Ross to make everything better. Maybe he's what I've been looking for....not Evan.
