The Meta Six

Chapter 17

Onyx Pov

The professor suggested we dress like we're going to the water park to actually have fun so that we don't stand out. I opened my closet scanning the racks filled with clothes. I flipped through the hangers looking for something that people would normally be seen in at a water park.

I stopped when I came across a two-piece gray bathing suit. I grabbed it off the hanger and changed into it. I walked over to the full-body mirror and looked at myself. As I looked at my reflection in the mirror a smile tugged at the corners of my lips as thoughts of the last time I was at a water park set in. Thinking of how Ariellis and I went on the lazy river close to 10 times because it was our favorite ride.

I quickly shook the memory away as I began to feel a heavy weight sink into my chest. I need to stay focused on the plan today. Earlier when we were downstairs, I listened to the professor speak and I couldn't help but wonder if I could use this as a way to find out where Hadeon is. I could get to him before he gets to us.

I didn't know how to do it but I had to try. Those grenlors are gonna lead me to Hadeon.

Justus POV

We all split up to cover more ground at the park. I went with Kiara, Marcel with Arianna, and Onyx insisted she could go alone so we let her. Granted she started walking away before any of us could protest.

The park was extremely full which made sense because it was a Saturday. Along with the sounds of excited children,  chlorine, and oil-fried foods that filled the air, awkwardness now joined the mix. Neither of us said a word as we walked through the park. I didn't know if it was because we were both focused on finding the grenlors or the fact that we both technically don't know each other very well... or both.

"We have to say something to each other. The point is to look natural, right now we both look awkward and tense. You can talk to me. I kill, I don't bite" She said as her eyes still scanned around the park.

"Yea your right" I agreed "So uh.. how do you feel about this whole 'meta team" stuff"

"It's...something" she said "I'm still trying to figure out exactly how I feel about all this but I think professor's heart is in the right place"

"Fair enough," I replied

"So-"I was cut off by the sound of both my and Kiara's watch going off. Before we left the house, the professor gave us some devices we would need for the mission. Each of us has a weapon tucked away somewhere, in-ear comms, and a watch.

The watches look like regular, everyday wrist watches but the professor designed it to detect beings like the grenlors.

"That means one is nearby" Kiara stated. We stood in place and looked around for someone that seemed off. I noticed this man sitting down at a table. He had an untouched slice of pizza sitting in front of him and a coke.  He had on a Hawaiian shirt and shorts. it didn't seem like he was sitting there to eat his food, he wasn't even looking at it. He had this look of concentration on his face as he stared at two young boys who stood a few feet away from him. They were laughing and eating ice cream, unaware of the man watching them.

"Look over there," I said to Kiara "at the man in the Hawaiian shirt sitting near the food stand"

She looked over at him and I can tell she also noticed how off he seemed.

She glanced up at me "Bingo"

"So now what," I asked as the two of us slowly started walking towards him.
