Chapter 1:My world

Maylin's POV

I know I'm a grown up now , but there's one thing I hate most in this world and that is waking up early in the morning . Like who the heck invented this . It's just tiresome can you believe today's my first day at work and it's a new job that my bestie got for me and I'm not supposed to be late but you can't blame me I'm too tired .

But as lazy as I am I can't just loose a job I just got . I have to wake up or else my alarm won't stop yapping. If ur wondering I got those new alarm clocks which even though you press snooze idk how many times it will not stop till your awake . It got this weird sensor or whatever that notices if your not awake. Fuck technology I need a coffee .

So slowly I get up and finally it stops it's horrible ringing , tie up my curly hair in a messy bun and keep it In a hair net and get my shower robe and finally muster up some courage to go fight that water.

When I say I need courage to go fight the water I'm serious . My body is different from others when others need a hot bath or even warm water to wake up . My body needs freezing cold water so that I can finally be awake.

I know , I know even I'm weirded out by that fact but my dad took me to the doctor once he found out and thought it ain't normal at all, and the doc said I got this weird skin condition inherited from my mom's side yeah and my mom's African but my dad is white.  Explaining my curly hair which is just growing too much .

But yeah so I got the stupid condition I'm told it ain't serious or anything I'll just have to bathe cold freezing water everyday in the morning for the rest of my life . It sucks right well I know I've been living like this for 22 years so just imagine .

But other than that awful fact I bathe get out. Finally agree to a type of hairstyle to tame my wild curls , find something decent since I'm going to my new job .

Well it ain't like I got fired from my old job naah, I still have it let's say I'm a multipurpose girl, I work 2 different places 3 if I need the extra money , coz I also run a business with my two besties Winter light and Summer Night.

Ikrrr I was shocked about their names too but meh just know their names tots match their personalities so lets skip that part .

I finish my whole look by, applying my baby apple lip balm I smile at my reflection . It completely says professional in style.

Well let's get this day started , yay..

20 minutes later.....

I'm finally here, it's the best hospital in the whole town. This hospital is for the sick who can't be helped at the hospital and like need more attention than what the hospital gives. I enter inside and the AC breeze slaps my face , literally.

I wonder why they make the inside colder than the outside . But that's a stupid question. I make my way to the reception and the receptionist gives me a jealous look. Well it ain't my fault I got some black genes they give you everything honestly.

She finally stops eyeing me and gives me a fake smile then she says,

" Hello, I'm Susan how may I help you ?" I gave her the same fake smile she gave me and i said,

"Can you show me to the managers office?"

"Oh?" She gave me a confused look, I continued smiling at her then she had no choice and explained where it was. I left I didn't want to see her twice , as I was on my way I could notice all the stares I was getting from the people. Can't they just continue with their work ! I feel so bored with the same old looks

But I finally reached there and knocked once I heard a come in . I entered , the office was medium size with different charts of health stuff you name it . They're all here.

The man looked a bit over 30s and kinda near his forties. He told me to kindly sit down so I did that. Then he said,

"You must be our new employee , Maylin I presume ." I nodded

"I looked through your paperwork I'm impressed . Now I think you should start off with something easy, I'll call Nurse Terry to take you to get your uniform. And she will take you to room 356 , okay"

"Yes sir"

"Good you may go." I nodded and he wrote the number on a paper but called I think that nurse Terry before giving it to me and he told me to wait outside for her.

So I waited and then this cute nurse who looked kinda old came , she smiled at me and said,

"Hello young girl I'm Nurse Terry,you must be the new one Maylin ." I nodded and she said

"Okay this way let's get you your uniform then we can take you to madame Cynthia." I guess that's my patient. So I got my uniform and it ain't that bad on me it fit me perfectly but then again it is a nurse's uniform.

So she started leading the way , on the way she asked me few questions about myself and I answered she was a good person but we just had to meet that Susan again . She stopped us and said,

"Nurse Terry is this the new employee you were talking about?"

"Yes I told you how she's the best and every hospital wants her were lucky for her to agree to work work with us." I saw a hint of anger in Susan.

"Ooh well that's good ." And she started studying me from head to toe. But meh let her have her fun once she was done the fake smile was back then she said,

"So where is her patient?"

"Room 356"

"Oh, but that room is already occupied by another nurse."nurse Terry got confused and I smelt something going on.

"But how can it be the manager just told me that's her new patient."

"Well it's okay I'll go tell him that It's already taken , but room 365 needs a nurse ."

"I don't know the manager said she needs something easy , you do know that's a strong case."

"Well if she's best in the business don't you think she can handle it , right Maylin?" And she smirked at me. I know the game she's trying to play and oh I'm so gonna win .

" Yeah I think I can handle it."Nurse Terry looked at me .

"You sure sweety it's okay if you want to start with something easy on you first try. What If the patient dies I don't think you can-"

"Nonsense nurse Terry I believe she can do it." And she smiled at me , she gave me that look that said are you ready and I gave her a victory smile showing challenge accepted.

"Yeah It's fine." Then nurse Terry wanted to say something when someone came rushing to her saying,

"We need you in room 299 the patient got a stroke." She said,

"Susan take her to room 365 , and Maylin nice to meet you and goodluck." And she left,now I'm Left with the psycho she looked at me and said,

"You won't last a month, let's go "
I didn't want to answer her so I just followed her , we finally reached the room and she said.

"Welcome." And she opened the door and left. But what I saw inside was just horrible .

Can you imagine seeing an old man in wires and tubes running all over his body. Oxygen tank there , pipes here is this a death trap he looks like he can die If even one of those stuff were disconnected. Is this what she means by you won't last for a week .

I beg to differ, I went closer to the old man but every step closer made me afraid of the disconnecting the wires. I reached out for his file.

Marital status: Married (but wife died some years back)
Condition: Critically dangerous.
Duration of stay: 2 years.

I looked at the old man's photo he looked so happy but now he can't do anything. And I said,

" Many might have given up on you not wanting to risk their jobs but I promise you'll be back to normal. By my own nurturing methods. I promise ." And I looked at him one last time and I left the room to get his meds.......
