Being disowned by her own family, Katerina went to New Orleans. There she bought a house and tried her best to be social. She knew that people should never know about her past or else they may ask her to leave. So she told everyone that she was the daughter of a landlord whose sudden death made her leave the place. Everyone believed her story and felt sympathetic towards her. As she was beautiful, every men in the town wanted her.

It was on such a beautiful evening, while she was riding a horse, that a carriage came in front of her. The person who emerged from it was well dressed gentleman with a devilish look on him. She knew that any man who sees her wanted to ask for her hand in marriage, but this man was different from them.

"Hello young lady, I am Klaus Mikaelson. What is the name of this beautiful lady?" "My name is Katerina Petrova". "Oh I meant the name of the horse on which you are sitting." It made Katerina smile. This man was indeed different.

"I kindly ask you to come to a party that is going to take place in my house tomorrow night. Would the beautiful lady be ready to join me?" "You asked for me or the horse". Katerina said with a playful smile. "Indeed you, my beauty."

She looked forward to attending a party. She was mesmerized by the charms of Klaus but didn't want to get herself involved in relationships again. But the whole town adored and respected Klaus. Every girl wanted to meet him and he was clearly interested in her.

The night of the party, there was music and drinks. She liked living in town compared to a village. When the dance started, every girl wanted to dance with Klaus, but he went and asked Katerina,"Would you care to join me for a dance?" "I would love to". They spend the night dancing. It felt wonderful. Katerina found herself admiring her guest.

The days that followed the party, Klaus would find time for Katerina and they would talk for hours and hours. After a few months, Klaus asked Katerina to marry him. He proposed to her with a beautiful ring that looked ancient. She said yes. The night of the engagement, Klaus asked Katerina to come by to his house, so that they could celebrate the day together. But when she entered his house, she saw a gruesome scene.

Klaus Mikaelson was kissing on the neck of a woman or so it seemed at first for Katerina. On observation, she realized that he was drinking from her. What a monster he was. He had red eyes and sharp fangs while he drained the blood from the woman. He looked entirely different from the man she met.

She tried to sneak away quietly but Klaus blocked her way before she could attempt her escape. "Hello luv".

"What are you?" "I am a vampire, one of the original ones. As you can see, I feed on human blood. I wanted to share this secret with you and today I asked you be my wife, so I thought that you should know this before getting more involved with me." Katerina stood glued to the place. "I don't know..... what to...." "Hey luv, it's ok, it is a lot but promise me that you would never disclose this to anyone ever." She nodded.

"So you are telling me that you are immortal and you can't bear kids." Katerina rewinded her conservation with Klaus. "Well yes. Being immortal is good but so is having kids. When I met you I wanted to start a family." "But you can't, because you are a vampire." Klaus smirked. "I found a way Katerina. You are from the Petrova bloodline, the spell that prohibited vampires from having kids were made by sacrificing your blood. We could reverse the spell. I have a powerful witch and a magical ring (pointing to her finger) and a Petrova."

She could remember being locked up in a bedroom. "It takes a fortnight to perform the spell. Till then be here luv". The fact that she was going to die terrified her, she had to find her daughter, before anything bad happened to her. She couldn't tell Klaus about her child or he would find and kill the child so as to fulfill the sacrifice. The whole house had things called vampires staying to serve Klaus. She waited and waited everyday to find an escape.

Everyday Klaus would keep her company and talk to her about Vampires, sacrifices and witches. She listened to it intently plotting a way for her escape. It happened on the night the spell was supposed to work. Klaus had told her how vampires were created and how their blood could heal anyone, so she hold on her chest and cried. She told Klaus that her chest was paining and it felt like she would die any moment. Klaus gave her vampire blood to heal. After a few moments, she showed that she was fine.

When everyone went to prepare for the sacrifice, she committed suicide by hanging on a long piece of bedsheet. After a few hours, she woke up feeling tired. She could feel fire burning in her stomach and she knew that she had to feed to live. When one of the human servants came to serve her food, she fed on him. Finally she became a vampire.

She was thirsty for human blood. All her senses were amplified. She could only listen to heartbeats and the rushing sound of blood in veins. She felt deep hatred towards everyone. But she knew that she had to leave before Klaus appears and so she jumped from the balcony. Since she was a vampire, the fall didn't harm her in any way. That night she fled New Orleans.

Klaus was furious at Katerina. He sent his men to find her, but she was found nowhere. He found the cloth that Katerina used to die and realised that she was now a vampire. Klaus said with a little smile, "Run away little bitch, I have an eternity to make you pay for what you did."
