April scowled at the page. Her pencil tapped the lab table as she tried to figure out the answer.
"So... if there's one dominant and one recessive," She started, "Then that means that the gene becomes heterozygous dominant?"
"Yep!" Donnie said, beaming at April.
"Yes!" She pumped her fist into the air triumphantly, "Take that, biology homework!"
Donnie laughed inwardly and slightly blushed. He wished he could have been able to ask April to the dance. Maybe then he'd have a small chance of actually going out with her. He cast his eyes down in disappointment.
It's useless, giving myself false hope. I'm a mutant. She deserves better than me, He thought miserably. (Okay, for the sake of this story, let's agree april didn't kiss Donnie at the farmhouse. Thx!)
April waved a hand in front of Donnie.
"Hello, earth to D," She teased, pulling him back out of his thoughts.
"Oh, sorry, April," He apologized, glancing at her.
"What're you making?" She asked, pointing over at the mess of chemicals and machine parts.
"Oh, it's a gadget to produce retro mutagen quicker," Donnie replied, walking over to the other table, "I just can't figure out how to get it functioning correctly."
"I'm sure you'll get it," The redhead remarked, peering over his shoulder.
Donnie felt her arm brush against his, and his senses went into overload.
What should I say to her? Do I say anything? Is she uncomfortable being this close to me? Maybe I should just kiss her. No! What are you thinking, Donatello?!
He was so wrapped up in his thoughts he didn't even notice the alarm sounding. April shook his shoulder, making him jump, before the ginger ran out of the lab. Donnie finally heard the systematic beeps sounding through the lair, and his stomach dropped. He had put that system in to warn them of...
"Intruders!" Mikey yelped as he raced into the lab, "We have about twenty Foot ninjas coming in, and some Purple Dragons too."
Donnie groaned, running out with Mikey and grabbing his Bo staff. Raph, Leo, and April were already in the living room.
"What the shell is going on?!" Raph shouted, grabbing his sais from his belt.
"It's Donnie's alarm system," April replied, tessen ready, "He installed it for warning of anyone approaching the lair."
Wow, she actually listened to me while I explained it to her? Was all Donnie thought as the first 3 Foot ninjas entered. They clicked robotically, pulling out assorted weapons and charging into battle with the Turtles.
It was the usual fight for Donnie: strike first, flip, then either whack the robot's head clean off or use the extended blade on his staff to stab the opponent. The intelligent turtle threw a few shuriken stars at the next ninja, who dodged the weapons easily, but was distracted as Donnie sliced off its arms and knocked what remained of the robot aside.
Things were going great.
Until Donnie spotted a Purple Dragon. As the fight had been carried out, the thug had somehow managed to sneak into the kitchen. He scurried out holding 2 other boxes of pizza, some knives, and...
Donnie's eyes narrowed as he saw April's diadem in the creep's hands. He fought his way through the robots, and was about to approach the Purple Dragon when he heard a yelp of pain.
Donatello glimpsed April, cornered by a Foot ninja. She looked dazed, like she'd been hit in the head, and a long gash ran across her right arm.
Donnie's vision tunneled. He raced up behind the ninja and sliced it to bits within seconds. April's eyes began to droop, and the intelligent turtle picked her up and sprinted through the dying turmoil.
He reached his lab and set her on the table. She was nearly unconscious now, with a goose egg forming just behind her left ear. Donnie disinfected her gash and bandaged it, then checked her vital signs to make sure she wasn't in critical condition. His brothers walked in, sheathing their weapons and walking over.
"What happened?" Leo asked, looking at the bump on April's head.
"Foot ninja managed to hit her, and she got a pretty bad cut too," Donnie looked at the sluggish expressions flitting across April's face. She was still obviously dazed, and he gently held her against the lab table, hoping to communicate that needed to relax.
"I think she'll be alright," He finally muttered.
"NOOOO!!!" Mikey yelped from the kitchen, making the others jump. They hadn't even noticed his absence. The Turtles hurried to the kitchen. Mikey was on his knees.
"They took it!" He whimpered, "They took the left over pizza!"
All 3 of his brothers rolled their eyes, and Donnie suddenly remembered what else the Purple Dragon had stolen. He looked over at April's shopping bags, which had been torn through and searched over.
"Guys,"He cried, "They took April's diadem!"
The 4 turtles all looked at the mess of bags and clothes, and worry filled their eyes.
"Oh no," Mikey said, "They took April's crown and the pizza?! That is sick and wrong!"
"How are we gonna tell her they took her mom's tiara?" Leo wondered sadly.
"They WHAT?!" The turtles whirled around to find April, rubbing her head and looking very, very upset.
Oookaay, not the best ending ever, but hey it's late.
Mikey: yeah, how do you even stay up so late? *yawns loudly*
Raph: because she's not a baby like you are.
Mikey: hey!
Donnie: *walks out of lab and sees us* oh! I didn't think anyone was awake at this time of night.
Mikey: I know right?! It's ridiculous!
Me: it is not!
Mikey: it is t--
Splinter: boys, if you don't quiet down, you will find tomorrow's training most unpleasant!
Me: ooh, you just got told!
Splinter: and that goes for you as well, Annabeth.
Me: O.O
Raph, Mikey, and Donnie: XD
Me: *in whisper voice, so as not to wake splinter* good bye, my lovelies!
