April raced to the mess of ripped up bags. She searched through them hurriedly, her head throbbing the whole time. She bent her bandaged arm the wrong way and winced in pain, but that didn't stop her frantic search.
She plopped into the chair when she was sure the diadem was gone. A pool of tears began to form in her eyes, but she bit them back.
Mikey walked up to April and hugged her tightly. She leaned into the embrace, wanting to fall apart and sob, but she managed to pull herself together.
"It'll be alright, April," He tried to comfort her, "You'll still look awesome without your bling."
"It's not that I won't be able to wear it, Mikey," She replied, pulling away and staring down at her hands, "That was one of the last things my mom left to me."
She looked up at the Turtles. Mikey looked as sad as she felt, and Raph was brooding in the doorway, unsure of what to say. Leo stood behind April, staring at the ground awkwardly, also uncertain of how to comfort the distraught redhead.
April's gaze settled on Donnie. He looked... angry. His brow was furrowed and the look in his eyes reminded her of Raph when he'd been ticked off.
"I'm going after him," He stated.
His usual gentle nature left him, and before anyone could say anything, he'd bolted out of the room.
"Donnie, wait!" April cried, shooting up out of her seat and running after him.
She finally caught up to the genius, who was about to jump over the turnstiles.
"Hang on, D," She pleaded, resting her hand on his shoulder. Her face began to heat up at the simple gesture, but she pushed aside her shyness.
"April, that creep stole something that meant a lot to you," Donnie replied, turning to face her, "I can't just let him get away with it."
"It's not that big of a deal," April lied, "Besides, we don't know what trouble we could be getting into if we went after that guy."
Seeing the anxiety etched across her features, Donnie gave in. His eyes turned to the ground, and he nodded reluctantly. Then he seemed to notice April's hand on him, and his face began to turn as red as Raph's mask.
"A-alright," He managed to mutter, "I-if you say so. B-But I still don't like that h-he got away with it."
April smiled sadly, and clasped her hands behind her.
"Don't worry," She reassured him, "Someday, we'll find him. And then he'll have to answer to me."
The others walked out, and Raph shouted at the two to help them clean up the mess. Donnie and April sighed and made their way to the living room to help them.
...
That night
Donnie stashed another throwing star into his bag and strapped his Bo staff to his shell. He looked at the photo of him and April on his desk and smiled faintly.
"Well, April," He whispered to her grinning photograph, "Tonight, that creep's gonna answer to me."
He crept out of the lab and ran out of the lair.
Oooh, snap! *does z-snap movement*
Donnie: cool! So I'm gonna save the day for her? Oh, I bet that's gonna be so awesome.
Annabeth: uh, yeah, okay. well...
Donnie: and then she can run up to me and be like--
April: *walks into room* hey guys!
Donnie: oh, April! H-hi!
Me: *major facepalm*
April: so whatcha talking about?
Donnie: well, uh...
Me: Donnie and I were just talking about how you were gonna fall for him in my Apriltello Oneshot.
April: *blushes* w-what?
Donnie: *faints*
Me: oh, you know the usual. Now can you help me drag him out of here.
April: s-sure.
Me and April: *attempt to lift Donnie and drag him out*
Me: see you next time, my lovelies!
