__________
The following morning presented Hoseok with another complication. A complication that would drastically change his whole life.
Hoseok woke to several gunshots, startling him awake with a loud cry. Immediately he aimed his gun at the door, ready to fire at the first thing that moved. Hoseok prayed that he was imagining it. That whatever was making that noise was a result of PTSD and not something else.
Another shot echoed off in the distance, forcing Hoseok to his feet in shocked surprise. They sounded close to him, yet still relatively distant. It was the first time in almost ten years that he was hearing gunshots coming from something other than him and he didn't know if it should terrify him or bring him comfort. But the series of shots that were ringing out sporadically, could only mean one thing.
Survivors.
He stumbled towards the balcony door, smacking into it like a dumbass. How he managed to survive this long, he'll never know. Still gripping his shotgun in one hand, he fumbled with the lock on the door, bursting out into the cool, morning air. He lent over the balcony railing. At first, he couldn't see or hear anything; in the morning light, it appeared as if it was just him who was awake, alone in the city. But then he could hear footsteps thudding against the pavement, and the sounds of shouting.
"SANG RUN!"
The mysterious voice was deep, male sounding, and Hoseok could hear the fear in the tone of whoever it belonged to.
Hoseok gripped the railing tighter in his hands. His heart was pounding heavily in his chest. Maybe if this 'Sang' could get closer, Hoseok could call out to him. Maybe he could help them. It's only a matter of seconds before they come into view.
Hoseok is horrified to see a young boy sprint around the corner of the alley way, and in his direction. He can hear another gunshot, and the boy flinches at the sound. Hoseok can hear his mother's voice ringing out in his mind, telling him to run and never look back.
Hoseok can't lose another person.
"HEY!' he shouted, loud enough for the kid to hear him. Startled, the boy froze in place, desperately looking around. "UP HERE!" he added, and the next thing he knows, the young boy is staring up at him with wide eyes, stunned by his presence. "COME HERE! I'LL HELP YOU UP!" he motions for him to climb up on the wall that's below his balcony. "I'LL KEEP YOU SAFE, I PROMISE!"
Promises or not, this kid looked to Hoseok as if he was God, and quickly scrambled up onto the wall, arms outstretched to him. There was only one slight problem. The boy wasn't tall enough for Hoseok to reach, despite leaning fully over the railing. He could see the fear in the kid's eyes; his breathing began to quicken, as he whimpered loudly as he jumped for Hoseok's hands.
"Hey, hey, hey, look at me," Hoseok prompted, leaning a little bit further. "I got you okay? You're going to be fine, I'm gonna get you out of this, alive," he stressed.
The boy nodded up at him, and jumped to reach him once more. The tips of their fingers touched as another gun shot rang out through the air. Seconds later, another person skidded around the corner, breathing heavily. The boy immediately turned away from Hoseok, causing him to panic.
"SUGA!" the boy yelled. "SUGA!"
The man halted in his tracks, and for a fleeting moment, Hoseok could see a wave of relief wash over him as his eyes landed on the small boy. He rushed over to his side, pulling him down to him and wrapped him up in a hug. "Oh thank god," he whispered.
The hug didn't last long, however, and the young boy pointed up to Hoseok. He too, seemed stunned to see him up on that balcony.
A corpse came into view then, screeching horribly. Hoseok's eyes widened, as his gaze flickered from them, to the corpse that was now headed their way.
"Give me a hand, I'll pull you both up!"
The older of the two was quick to jump up on the wall, scooped up the boy, and practically tossed him in the air for Hoseok to catch. He snatched him out of the air, and swiftly set him down on the other side of the railing. He quickly lent back over the ledge. The corpse was closer now.
Hoseok's heart was pounding now.
"Your turn," he called down, stretching his hand out. He might not have been able to save his family, but he could save them.
Hoseok doesn't have to reach that much to grab him. He's significantly taller than the boy; in fact, he probably wouldn't even need Hoseok's help to get up over the bannister. He hooked one arm under his, while grabbing his upper forearm with his other hand, and hoisted him up with every ounce of his strength. The man shoved his foot in between two of the slots of the railing by the ledge, and used it to prop himself up just as the corpse made a grab for him. He used his momentum to push himself up, jumping over the railing like a ninja and forcing himself forward, causing him and Hoseok to fall backwards into the apartment. From beneath them, the corpse howled in anger.
They landed half in, half out of the apartment, with the stranger on top of Hoseok. He let out a groan, head rolling back in discomfort. He'd definitely had softer landings. The guy on top coughed in pain, seemingly having had the wind knocked out of him.
"Suga!"
The man propped himself up on his hands. Hoseok lifted his head back up and was greeted with a foreign face; sharp features, and dark eyes hidden behind messy, unkempt black hair stared back at him. He had a cut on his cheek and dirt on the bridge of his nose. He was breathing heavily. Hoseok swallowed the lump in his throat.
He was incredibly attractive, this stranger, and Hoseok couldn't help but smirk lightly. He was no Alien Humanologist but maybe...
"Are you good?" the man grunted, raising an eyebrow at him. He too was smirking softly.
"I'm good," Hoseok breathed, grinning. "You?"
"I've had worse," he replied, licking his lips.
A moment of silence passed between them until Hoseok cleared his throat.
"Y'know, as much as I am comfortable right now, do you think you could get off me? There's still an irritable zombie to deal with and your young friend here seems to be very shaken up,"
"Oh shit, yeah, fuck, sorry,"
The man climbed off of him and helped him to his feet. Hoseok picked up his discarded shotgun while he turned to the boy, kneeling to his level.
"Sang are you okay? Are you hurt? Did you get bit?"
"N-No,"
Hoseok leaned over the railing, aimed his shotgun and fired two shots into the corpse.
