I think I understand why people fake mental illnesses.

I don't think its okay, or acceptable at all, but I feel like I know why they do it.

They want attention.

And everyone is going to be saying, "WeLl Of CoUrSe ThEy WaNt AtTeNtIoN!!", but it's not that simple.

Getting attention for a mental illness isn't as good as people think it is.

But that's not the only reason people do this.

They want to be special.

When something about us is unique, our brain goes off excitedly, because that one thing about us is really special.

And when someone else is special in that same way, a part of us is mad, and jealous,  that they are that same kind of special, and we don't feel special anymore.

Sometimes, too fix that, we lie.

We make the thing that makes us special sounds worse (if it was a bad thing) or better (if it was a good thing) than other people.

So when some people see others with mental illnesses, especially mental illnesses that are rare, or affect you physically, like tourettes, they want to be special like that too, so they fake it.

Sometimes people self diagnose, to make it seem like they aren't faking. Sometimes people get a little guilty about faking, so they use self diagnosis as a confirmation that what they are doing is okay, which it isn't.

Self diagnosis is only okay when you actually show the symptoms of what u are self diagnosing, and havnt seen a doctor about it yet, and even then you shouldn't be saying that you have it. You should be saying you suspect you have is, and have a lot of research to back it up.

People want to be as/more special than everyone else, and they can't accept that there are people with things that make then special in a different way.

But no one is more or less special than anyone else. Everyone was created differently, so everyone is special.

You don't need to fake that.
