Ashton snuck out of the penthouse again before Calum could lecture him on staying inside after what happened to Michael last week. But Ashton liked being outside and absolutely had to meet up with Beverly again.
The two of them have been meeting each other outside of the café for a week and a couple days. They always have a good time together but she still thinks his name is Fletcher.
Ashton rounded the corner of the café but stopped when he saw two police men standing outside talking to a girl. He quickly backed behind the wall.
"Have you seen this man?" He asked.
Her face formed a surprised expression "n-no" she lied.
Ashton took another look. It was Beverly.
"Well if you do see him, give us a call"
"Why? What'd he do?" She asked.
"He escaped a prison in Australia and fled here" he replied "but don't worry ma'am everything is under control, have a nice evening" the officer said and walked back to his car.
Beverly remained where she was and watched the car roll away. After it was clear Ashton walked out quietly. Beverly turned around and backed away.
"Stop!" She said.
"I was going to tell-"
"Well you didn't! I trusted you!"
"I was coming to tell to right now!" Ashton said ignoring her previous request "I just messed up, if you'd listen-"
"I was stupid enough to trust someone I just met" she looked down at the ground and crossed her arms together.
Ashton walked toward her "look I'm sorry, I couldn't just tell you right then and there"
"You could've..." She pouted.
"I didn't think you'd want to hang out with me if you knew the truth" he brought his hands around her arms. Little goose bumps arose on her skin as a chilling breeze blew by "you're cold" he said.
She jerked away.
"Here" he said taking off his jacket and wrapping it around her shoulders.
She tried desperately to frown but a smile crept up on her face. She sighed.
"What?" Ashton asked.
"Stop being all cute when I'm trying to be upset" she did playfully shoving him.
He smiled "you want to know the truth?" He asked.
"Yes"
"Well I guess I should start with my name" he said.
"Your name? But it's- you lied about that too!"
"I had to! My names Ashton" he said "my family didn't have a lot of money and my Mum couldn't afford to send my siblings to college so I...I robbed a bank with these people" he lowered his voice.
Beverly gasped.
"It was the only way I could get them money...and I got away too"
"But you got arrested?" She asked confused.
"Yeah I called the police on myself..."
She laughed "that's so stupid why?"
"Hey it took a lot of guts! I felt so guilty...and then I returned the diamond necklace"
"Diamonds" she repeated in awe.
"Yep the prettiest things I've ever seen" he looked into her eyes "besides you of course"
She blushed.
"And you can't tell anyone" he whispered.
"I won't" she replied.
He smiled "so...do you trust me again?" He asked.
She thought for a moment "I don't know Ashton that's a lot to take in"
"Yeah, imagine how hard it is to carry" he stared at her.
"They never said that was why you were wanted, they said it was about you escaping jail in, in Australia! That's a long way from here!" Beverly realized.
"Yeah me and a few of my friends broke out and flew up here. We'er staying with Calum, my friend, his cousin Emma, you two would get along well"
"Ashton I want to be with you but I don't want to get mixed up in all this..."
"Be with me?" He asked.
"Be friends with you! I meant be friends with you!" She said embarrassingly fast.
"I understand.." He looked down noticing they were holding each other's hands.
"I'm sorry" she said.
"It's okay" he let go of her "so I guess I won't see you tomorrow or...or ever?" He asked.
She looked down.
Ashton nodded "okay, bye" he turned around and walked away.
"Ash wait!"
He turned around.
"Same time tomorrow?" She asked.
"yeah" he smiled excitedly.
"Hey, you forgot your jacket!" She yelled again.
"Keep it" he winked and walked away.
Fun fact I was gonna have Beverly leave but I can't even make fictional Ashton sad...
