This whole situation was a nightmare come to life.
That was the only clear thought running through Donatello's head as he stared ahead at his enemies: New April and his own counterpart. The very fact that they were his enemies made him sick to his stomach nearly as much as the nefariously delighted looks painted onto their faces; their eyes glowed as white as snow in sharp contrast to their sickening grins. The pure glee radiating off of them told Donatello that it did not matter what the outcome of this battle would be; the Kraang had won them over. Their innocence and love for their families and friends were gone, hearts wiped like a clean slate, and the bonds they had thought were unbreakable were smashed into smithereens.
The Kraang had New April and Other Donnie in their clutches. They had no choice but to fight.
How could I have let this happen? Donatello wondered to himself, unable to wrap his head around the truth. How could their mission have gone so wrong? Was this all just some kind of sick joke the universe was playing on them? How could he have messed up so terribly?
And how was it fair that the entire Earth may have to pay the price?
"What's wrong boys?" New April taunted, "Cat got your tongue?"
The Controlled Donnie laughed from beside her. The Free Donatello's stomach twisted in his gut. Never before had he wished more that he could go back in time and erase all the damage that had been done, but he knew that he never could; he had to face his actions.
Leonardo and New Raph grimaced and exchanged glances at New April's words, but neither responded. Little Mikey opted to remain quiet as well.
The Controlled Donnie scoffed, obviously displeased with the lack of response. "That's okay," He told New April, "They don't need to talk to be taught a lesson. You ready?"
"Oh, you know I am."
New April and Donnie grinned at each other. A familiar friendship that seemed all too natural for them, yet horrifyingly wrong at the same time. They raced their weapons together.
That was the last moment shared before the room burst into chaos.
New April rushed towards Little Mikey who cried out in fear. Leonardo came to his aid and blocked the first hit, allowing Little Mikey the moment of composure he needed before he rushed into battle too. Donatello wasn't able to notice anything more; his counterpart had stolen his attention as he came after both him and New Raph.
"Fibonacci!" New Donnie shouted, slicing his tech bo through the air. It hummed with power, flashing pink and leaving streaks of light in the air as it flew. New Raph and Donatello jumped apart to avoid its blow.
"Donnie, listen to me!" New Raph shouted desperately, dodging another jab. He refused to send a punch himself and focused all his energy on avoidance, continuing to cry out as he did so. "Stop this! Stop this right now—this isn't you!"
"Oh, isn't it, Dear Brother?" Controlled Donnie grinned even as Donatello ran towards him. With a wicked gleam in his eyes, he fired a blast of energy towards Raph and then twisted around, planting his foot on his counterpart's plastron. He sent Donatello flying back and continued taunting his older brother. "Is this really different than any other day? This is what I've always wanted, after all: limitless resources and to rule the world while showing off my amazing tech. I even finally got my hands on some uranium, though that's nothing in comparison to half of the new Dimension X elements that make even that look like child's play. This is really no different from how I've always been and you know it."
"No, it isn't! The Donnie I know would never do this out of his own free will!"
"Oh? Well, would he do this?" The softshell swung his weapon again and three blasts of energy came flying out. New Raph dodged two, but the third hit his upper arm and sliced through his tough skin. He cried out and gasped even as his little brother laughed.
