"I got through to our April!"
Little Mikey was breathless as he shouted to the others in the Shellraiser, desperate to bring up the mood at this small victory. It couldn't do much to cheer anyone up though—how could it? New Donnie was too busy driving, desperately slamming on the gas and yanking the wheel this way and that, trying to dodge Kraang droids and screaming civilians. The older Michelangelo and Donatello were still trying to get a hold of themselves. Both were in a state of shock that their April was trying to talk them out of, offering promises that all of them knew were probably completely false: Splinter would be completely fine. They didn't need to worry at all. They'd get him back soon.
Overall, it was a horrifying situation.
But Little Mikey wasn't going to let that bring him down. Instead, he pulled his T-Phone back to his head and replied to her. "Ohmigosh, April, the lair was invaded!" He shouted all in one breath, "We took the Shellraiser and we're out, but it's crazy outside—we gotta get to you!"
He knew by the noise in the background and the breathless way she spoke that their team couldn't be doing much better. The thought of what the rest of his family could be going through made Little Mikey sick to his stomach, and he wished there was something he could do. If only they were together already... They never should have separated at all!
New April must have had the same thought because she wasted no time in making plans to be reunited. "Can you meet us at-" A pause, and then she rushed on, "Captain Deli?"
"Is Captain Deli near here?" Little Mikey turned around to look at his counterpart and Donatello, and both looked at each other. It was Donatello who spoke.
"It's not too far from the road we'll need to take to get out of the city," He said, "We can get there."
"We'll be there soon!" Little Mikey said confidently, as the red-haired April went to give New Donnie directions. He could hear New April sigh in relief as he said so, and he smiled ever so slightly at that. He was thankful for a family that cared for each other as much as his did.
"Good," New April said, "Hurry. Bring everyone."
A spike of anxiety shot down Little Mikey's spine as he realized he hadn't told her everything he needed to. Shouldn't she know that the Kraang had gotten this world's version of Splinter? He knew if he were with that group, he'd want to be told about something as big as this. And if the Kraang were planning on mind-controlling Splinter, they definitely needed to know before he attacked.
Sure, New Donnie had ensured him that Leo did NOT want this Splinter to be controlled, but Little Mikey couldn't think of a single other reason they'd want him. They had to be planning on controlling him.
Little Mikey took a deep breath. "Uh... one more thing, though, April," He began, "Something happened."
"What is it?" New April asked. Little Mikey could hear the panic strike in her voice, and it made him hesitate. "Mikey, what happened?" She asked again.
Little Mikey took a deep breath. It was now or never, and she had to find out eventually anyway. Still, he could only whisper the words, as he didn't want Donatello and Michelangelo to hear. They didn't need yet another reminder.
"The Kraang took Splinter."
The seconds ticked by. The silence lasted so long that, for a moment, Little Mikey wondered if their connection had cut out. But, just before he was about to ask if she was still there, New April finally responded.
"We... We'll..." She inhaled softly. "It'll all be okay, Mikey. Just focus on getting here, okay?"
The red-haired April suddenly tapped on Little Mikey's shoulder. He looked up in slight surprise, and she held up all of her fingers. "We're about ten minutes away," She whispered, and Little Mikey nodded. He turned back to the phone.
