Fourteen

Things have progressed rather quickly. School ended and I found myself with a free summer that I could either spend in my home country and risk not being close to Niko or I could stay here and do a road tour with Noah and his band of misfits. With the ever present hope that Niko would visit me.

Noah’s band of misfits is made up of all the people/acts he has recording at his studio. Some of them are exceptionally talented and others are a bit mediocre but he doesn’t seem to discriminate. He told me that music isn’t about talent, it’s about passion so as long as someone felt that they needed to do music his doors were open.

I wasn’t sure why he had invited me to go on the road tour with them. I have yet to enter his studio to record anything. I never go by there but I still do my weekly vocal exercises and he and Lisa are pretty close so she told him that I was ready for performing and he thought I might want to give it a try.

They leave next week which is enough time to go record something so I can have at least one song to perform if I wanted to. He said that I didn’t even need to perform anything, I could just tug along and get to see other parts of /Ireland and London which is where their tour ended.

Ridley wants me to go because then he could tag along.

I am seriously contemplating it which is why I am discussing it with Niko right now.

“So what do you think?”

“You should go, give it a try.”

“Really?”

“Yes, I was actually thinking that you having any sort of fame might help our cause.”

“Our cause?”

“Yeah, it could protect you from harm.”
“Harm?”

“My world is dangerous, darling it’s the only reason you are so far away from me.”

“I thought it was because you wanted to test my endurance.”

He laughs “I am serious, I’m not telling you what to do but I would like for you to become a singer – just don’t do anything your religion or country would frown upon.”

I’m not a religious person but I am a Muslim girl.

“I already do plenty that would be frowned upon.”

“I mean publicly.”

“Ugh, this is all moot anyway. My voice is so…so-so.”

“It’s magnificent, like you are.” he’s thoughtful for a moment then adds “But it doesn’t matter anyway, your face can do the rest.”

“Oh!” I laugh “So I should just get by on that?”

“I knew you would agree with that, you’re aware of just how beautiful you are.”

I blush and like usual I make this hideous laugh “I’m just okay, nothing that eye catching.”

"You asked for it so I'm about to say some really cheesy things," he says and takes a deep breath like he's preparing to say a speech. I know what will happen next. He'll say stuff like you're as bright as the sun, you're so beautiful you burn - my eyes. exactly like that, with the break in between. He's said it before.
