What else can I do?

Encanto; said to be a beautiful village hidden away behind mountains. People speak of it with such wonder and enthusiasm that you can't help but feel enthralled without even understanding their reasoning behind such emotion, not me however, I knew exactly why it was so well-spoken- I even had the privilege to live there.

Last night, sleep was stolen by sensational dreams of a woman lifting the world, smashing the crust, and carrying the pressure of gravity; a tree growing from the earth, bearing every single fruit conceivable and branches intertwining themselves to craft exquisite baskets, delivering the fruits to each doorstep; holding hands with a very pretty boy and twirling him around while he transformed into all the faces from my memory.

I awoke with a pit in my stomach and a pang of hunger- not for food but magic - the soreness in my back from laying on floorboards overnight was easily disregarded as I quickly but consciously, for lacking the desire to cause damage to my tio's place, spread the doors of the cabinets and aimlessly selected a skirt and blouse, almost crumpling up the rest of my clothes.

Clothing slid comfortably along my limbs but the buttons gave me trouble as they always did, I never was one for fiddly tasks, however when push comes to shove and your fingers end up red raw, anything can be done.

When I was fully dressed I instinctively reached for the curtains and flung them open, allowing light even more intense than yesterday to pour in, luminating every nook and cranny, turning my day from good to great. I beamed an 'hola' at the blaze in the sky and just knew that today would be exceptional.

Houses sit among each other overflowing with cheer radiating of the families busying themselves inside, the mood would've been infectious if I weren't at peak elation already. Every building appeared more saturated with color than yesterday, the sun doing wonders for their beauty.

One house in particular caught my attention, Casita, as Mirabel deemed it, the largest house in the village stood on a raised section of the area which meant easy viewing so long as there wasn't a taller building blocking your vision. It was designed differently to any other home with rooms growing off it in all directions each wore it's own unique-coloured coat of paint. The whole thing felt warm, it felt like family.

I stopped prying on the Madrigal's house and dashed out the door of the bedroom to greet my parents for breakfast.

My tio's dining table held a plethora of fruits and breads prepared for us to consume, although my tio was nowhere to be seen. Mami and papi were already at the dining tucking in when I stepped into the room.

"Ah, good morning, our apologies for eating without you, Y/N," my papi gestured to the empty seat I sat in yesterday, "Yesterday was a long, hard day. After scaling those mountains and meeting all those new people we thought you would sleep the day away."

"Hola, did you sleep well, my flower?" mami actually set her food down to talk to me, unlike my father who couldn't look away from his meal, but who could blame him, "I heard you talking in your sleep, you weren't having nightmares, were you?"

"Good morning, I slept okay, it could've been better but at least my dreams were amazing." I slipped into my chair and dropped food onto my plate, "Did I say anything in particular?"

"Nothing decipherable, just disconcerted mumbles," mami flashed a smile my way, "I'm glad the nightmares aren't returning."

"Mami, it's been eight years, they're not coming back," I huffed through the bread in my mouth, mami was always conscious of my nightmares reoccurring, "Anyway, where's tio?"

"My brother left early this morning," papi finished his food and looked at me, "He's meeting that friend of his, Brian was it?"

"Bruno! How can forget the names of the legendary Madrigals?" I overdramatically feigned a horrified expression whilst peeling a piece of fruit with my hands,  "Isn't it a tad early for that?"
