Waiting on a Miracle

The great Madrigals are said to be the most magnificent family throughout Colombia; gifted with beauty, strength, intelligence, a secure family bond close to none, and best of all magical powers bestowed upon each child which spread wealth and humility throughout the village of Encanto. I was privileged enough to be friends with them, however, it's hard to be grateful when someone forces you to do something you don't want to do.

After enjoying another delectable breakfast of Encanto-grown fruit with my family, I dawdled through the streets, trying to be as slow as possible, to extend the journey to its limits;  yesterday I'd been beckoned to the village center by none other than Camilo Madrigal, who was supposedly going to teach me how to dance - which I was sure was an impossible task, I practically had two left feet.

Mirabel also told me to join her for her day's activities but neither of them gave me a time so I chose to see Camilo first in hopes that he'd be there and I could make this as brief as possible but if it were going to come down to choosing one or the other, I would choose Mirabel - I'm closer to her.

I groaned as the town center entered my vision and there he was, like he'd told me, Camilo stood in the center anticipating my arrival. He waved me over once he spotted me.

"Y/N, you actually made it." Camilo jogged up to me seeming rather surprised.

"I can't be neither early nor late as you gave me no time." I crossed my arms sternly.

"You're not late I just wondered if you'd actually show up, you seemed quite confident in your lack of abilities."

"You seemed quite confident in telling me you were gonna teach me." Camilo pretended he didn't recall, "If my memory serves correct, you didn't even ask me, more so just demanded I show up."

"That might have been a little much on my part."

"Ya think?"

"Hey, it was a long night, I was... distracted." Camilo looked faraway, "But, hang on. If I remember correctly, you declared that this was a date."

"Did I?" I played with a strand of my hair, "You probably don't remember properly if you were distracted."

"No, no, I vividly recall you saying that," He inched closer to me, "I wouldn't forget something you told me, especially not something that got me all flustered."

I turned away from him, "Did you ask me here to chat or are we actually gonna get on with whatever we're doing?"

"Fine, change the conversation." Camilo proceeded to take my hand and lug me behind him towards the center of the square, then laughed mischievously, "You have no idea what you've gotten yourself into."

"What's that supposed to mean?" no answer, "Camilo?"

My confused expression turned horrified as Camilo scaled a tree and started bellowing, "Hey everyone, who's in the mood to dance? Can we get some music going?"

Just like that a band appeared at the top of the square and begun playing lively music as the crowd broke into movement.

"Camilo, what is all this about?" I could see Julietta smiling with amusement from the bottom of the square, clearly she needed to be on guard at all times since this was now a breeding ground for injury, "Camilo!" I had to roar to be heard above the music.

Camilo climbed down and took both my hands in his, "I'm teaching you how to dance, Y/N, what did you think would happen?" Dragging me deeper into the crowd he placed my hand on his shoulder and grabbed my waist while keeping hold of my other hand.

"In front of all these people?" Camilo nodded, wearing a sly grin as he slowly eased into movement, stepping in a square with me, "It's bad enough embarrassing myself in front of you, never mind a bunch of people."
