"Oh come on!" Brittany whined
"No! The last time you wanted to 'give me a makeover' I ended up with lipstick and eyeliner smeared across my face."
"I won't do it this time!"
"For some crazy reason I don't believe you!"
"I'm serious!" She laughed
"I don't trust you!" Her face showed pure shock and her hands clutched her heart as she stumbled to the floor like she just got shot.
"That hurt." She gasped
"You're ridiculous." I bent down and offered her my hand, she took it but yanked me down on top of her. We both let out a groan.
"Well that backfired." She giggled as we wrestled around. Sooner or later we both got tired and ended up laying in a tangled mess on her bedroom floor.
"Brittany! Abby! Come down here for a minute please!" Ms. Nancy called from downstairs.
"Wow she's up early." Brittany said with a confused look at her clock. "I wonder why."
It was awfully weird for Ms. Nancy to be up so early.
We both went downstairs into the kitchen but no one was there.
"In the family room girls." I heard Ms. Nancy call. She sounded upset, I wonder if we did anything.
"Mom are you okay?" Brittany said once we were in the family room. It was obvious that she was not okay. Her eyes were red from swelling and tear streaks lined her face. I don't think I have ever seen her look like this before other than when her and Mr. Rawley were getting a divorce.
"Girls why don't you take a seat, alright? I have to talk to you about something."
We took a seat on the couch and Mrs. Nancy took a deep breath, "Early this morning I got a call from Clara." I immediately shot to my feet and so did Brittany. She grabbed my hand and squeezed it so hard I thought it was going to burst.
"She said that your aunt had asked her to come in this morning early for some reason. When she came into the house she found that your Aunt May had passed away in her sleep." I was silent for a few seconds as Mrs. Nancy looked at me with deep sadness. Then the full blunt of what she said hit me like a truck. I let out a bloodcurdling scream and fell to my knees. All the dams I had built up over the years broke at this moment and uncontrollable sobs racked my body.
I could tell that Brittany and her mom were over me saying things I couldn't hear. I put my hands over my ears as another wave of sobs hit me and I was gasping for breath. I started hyperventilating and I heard Ms. Nancy yell at Brittany to call an ambulance. My breathing became even shorter as I thought back on what Ms. Nancy had said "your Aunt May had passed away..."
Last night?! I thought she had the whole summer! My thoughts snapped back to the present as soon as I felt multiple hands touch me and I let out a strangled scream.
"NO! No don't do that! Only one person, she's very claustrophobic at times like these!" The hands immediately retracted as I heard Ms. Nancy yelled this.
A single man came into my blurred line of vision and said something too soft for me to hear. He was holding his hands in front of him and gently touched my arm. I went to scream again but nothing came out and instead I gasped for air.
Air, I had to breath.
But it was so hard.
Oh Aunt May. I started hyperventilating again and the man yelled something behind him. I felt my chest weighing down on me and soon I couldn't even hyperventilate. I couldn't breathe. Another man came to the first and handed him a syringe. I tried to move away but my body was moving in slow motion. The man plunged the needle into my thigh and everything slowly darkened until there was nothing.
