While the few adults wasted their night away with a few drinks, their children were separated in the other room.

Though only few were in the room, it was bustling with conversations Y/N can't keep up with which made her nervous because sitting there doing nothing makes her look awkward.

Isabela was deep in concentration trying to grow a pair of cacti matching Mariano's color scheme for Dolores who looked very eager to see the results.

Camilo meanwhile was being used as a reference hoisted up on Luisa's shoulder as he wistfully shapeshifted into his sister's boyfriend.

Antonio called some squirrels to carry watering cans and watched everyone, obviously interested on what Isa can grow today.

Mirabel and Y/N were left in the corner still unsure of what to say, or rather in Y/N's case write, to each other. It was obvious to Mirabel that Y/N was feeling a bit of left out because of this because the way she looked at her siblings and cousins says otherwise.

Still hesitant she placed a hand on Y/N's shivering shoulders and placed a hand over her ear to whisper. Though it would be useless since Dolores would probably hear them, the girl was too focused thinking of the man of her dreams anyway.

" Let's go."

As the girl with glasses stood up, Y/N looked up at her with a confused look.

But she still followed.

" Wow..."

Standing in front of a river, Y/N stared at the shining surface if the moving waters as she watched Mirabel hop on a few rocks to get to the other side. She had her arm out extended, waiting for her friend to take it.

" Come on! There's so much more here than the river."

" I....I don't know Mira the rock looks...slippery."

" I'll help you Y/N."

Her shoe let out a clack as she forwarded herself into one rock, 2 rocks away from Mirabel's. " You can do it! Just one more and- wait! Y/N!"

Mirabel braced as she watched Y/N hop on a faulty rock and slip, her body slamming into hers as they both splashed into the water.

Y/N can't swim.

So she was underwater swinging her arms around trying to fight her way towards the surface while Mirabel swiftly swam upwards. She only then realized her friend hasn't kept up with her when she found Y/N was nowhere to be seen. Mirabel looked down to find her close to passing out and dived back down. Their heartbeats synched when she felt the Madrigal wrap her arms around her waist as her legs carried them to land.

The wind blew by as soon as their hands touched the soil, making them both shiver while Y/N frowned filled with guilt. " I'm so sorry. Thank you for saving my life." she whispered.

" No worries. I apologize too for making you jump across the rocks."

The Madrigal turned to face a red faced Y/N with a handkerchief on her palm offering it to her. " It's not a big help but at least use it to dry off."

Mirabel returned the blush and accepted the handkerchief, squeezing the cold water off her curly locks. She watched as Y/N continued to shiver and felt the absolute need to find something that could warm her up. After all she might get sick again and it would be all her fault.

Mirabel grabbed her arm and pulled her upward. " Come one we should find somewhere warm."

A piece of a branch suddenly fell on her glasses, making her yelp in surprise startling Y/N who had her arm wrapped around Mirabel's. Both looked up to find an oddly shaped shadow from above.

" It wasn't there before..." Y/N heard Mira mumble.

Before they knew it they have already found a peculiar pair of stairs....rather a ladder leading to a worn out treehouse. They tip toed their way into the house, hands in each others and water dripping off their clothes as they slowly looked at each other. " Isn't this is a little far away from Encanto-" Y/N said. Mirabel shrugged and smiled softly. " Yes but hey? This can be our very own sanctuary! It looks cozy and even has a fireplace."

" Uhm...Mira do...you know how to light the fire-"
" Mhm!"

Boom. Suddenly a little source of light aka their new fireplace was born, and Mirabel proudly crossed her arms looking at Y/N who was impressed. " Ah thanks. Now we have a heat source."

Now with light illuminating the dim night, they got to see the contents of the house clearly. There was a simple worn out couch and a table with two chairs. There was a cupboard that Y/N opened only to be met with dusty sleeping bags. She coughed.

" Y/N are you alri-?"
" Y-yes yes!"

" Huh. This place basically has everything." Mirabel walked over to the broken balcony, peeking over the edge.

" So this is where the branch fell. It was like the place is meant for us!" Mirabel backed away to give Y/N space to look at the view.

There was a better view for the lake and since the tree was tall, they can see town from there. Since Y/N was so close, Mira felt her cheeks heat up, which led to her confusion. It has only been a day or two since they've met, " I have to calm down." she scolded herself in her head.

" She isn't a crush she isn't a crush she isn't a cru-"

" Mirabel?"

Adjusting her glasses, Mirabel directed her gaze back at Y/N who looked very concerned. Some of her clothes have already dried off, though her (hair colour) hair was still glistening with river water. " Sorry Y/N I spaced out."

" It's alright. I do that too."

For the first time since they met, Mirabel saw her smile slightly. Just slightly but it was enough for her to catch it.

" I suppose this is our treehouse now?" she asked, squeezing more possible water from her hair.

" Yes... our treehouse."

They both decided to carve their names into a tree branch before they left to go back to Casita. They didn't want to drag suspicion from the adults. Mirabel also thanked that luck was on her side that day.

Good thing Y/N didn't see the small heart in between their initials.
