As more raindrops fought its way against the house's roof, the two girls were seated in the kitchen with the wafting smell of tea filling the room.

Mirabel was very glad to be face to face with her friend again especially after that unfortunate vision she got. She also had an insane amount of questions waiting to be answered as her eyes glanced at every part of the room.

Which was filled with piles of papers of every kind.

Newspapers, signed contracts, folders, research chapters, and so on. " Sorry for the mess Mirabel. We just moved in and my parents barely have time to tidy up."

" Oh please, it's nothing to worry about. It matches your house's...uh...yeah I don't know the word." Upon hearing her friend laugh, comfort hit her beating heart. The cold didn't hit differently as much anymore, it could've been the tea, but the simple interactions she has with her newly gained friend is more than enough.

" So how's paperwork?". Y/N glanced up from her tea and sighed. " I'm barely done." she replied. " What's your family's business anyway? If you don't mind me asking of course." Mirabel added. But her friend gave her a shrug as if to say it wasn't really that important. " My dad is a journalist. That can basically sum up....the papers." an embarrassed Y/N answered, glancing over at the pile of newspapers on top of a cupboard.

" And my mother, she and Dad do some sort of magic with their work. It's just as if..." Y/N closed her eyes trying to find the right word, to which Mirabel found pretty adorable. She snapped her fingers. " He gives her the details and she somehow knows how to put it into great words. I'm not talking about the normal type, she describes them in...g-great detail!". You can see the amusement in her eyes as she talked more about her parents. " So that's where you got your great writing skills from." Mirabel complemented her, making Y/N get caught of guard.

" I know this will probably not mean much to you but, I really like the way you write your letters. It's simple but it's full of life. Reminds me of the happiest moment of my life." Mirabel stopped herself and turned red, immediately looking up to see Y/N's face having the same color. " Oh god I didn't mean to say so much! I-I'm so so-sorry!"

A giggle. A giggle that came from Y/N broke through the awkward tension, her hand over her mouth to hide a toothed grin. " No no, it is a big deal. Thank you!" she said, looking touched that someone or rather the only person she ever talked to, enjoyed the letters. " Well of course! Today was sooo boring." the Madrigal replied.

" Of course. You even went as far as to come to my house."
" Not my fault my family isn't fun on rainy days! And besides I don't have any other friends."
" You're hilarious!"

Mirabel gave her a sophisticated bow. " Why of course." Suddenly thunder erupted outside which made both girls flinch, and the three tiny dogs that belonged to the L/Ns rush into the room to jump into each girls' arms. " Whoa! Who are these fluffballs?"

Y/N, who had Dime and Teacup in her arms, looked over at her friend who had Chrysalis curled up into her chest. She smiled at the cute scene. " That one in your arms right now is my dog, Chrysalis. And meanwhile these two troublemakers." Y/N raised the two pups and gave rhe Madrigal a smug look. " Dime and Teacup, my parents' dogs."

" Damn I wish we had dogs..." she shot Mirabel a shocked look. " You don't have dogs?!" she shout whispered. Mirabel nodded.

" Oh I could never live without these dogs, they're my only company since mom and dad are always away." Y/N mumbled, giving Dime a quick pat on the head while Teacup chewed on a toy. " Do you get lonely?" the visitor hesitantly questioned. Y/N let out a shaky sigh and stared out the window to watch the racing raindrops sliding down the glass. " Yes. They're always away. I know it's so that we can maintain our financial status but..." she hesitated before breaking eye contact with the window and looked at Teacup who was now chewing on her dress. " I don't mind it changing at all. I just want the company they gave me when I was a kid. If only I had cool siblings like yours to be honest. If only I can talk to people."

" Welll...." Mirabel placed Chrysalis on the ground, Dime and Teacup jumping off Y/N to follow her, before placing a warm hand over her shoulder. " I think you are a very fun person to be with... even if you aren't that good at talking to people. It takes time y'know?".

Y/N nodded glancing over the pikes of envelopes placed beside a cactus.

" Also, I may have siblings, cousins, and a big family. But I can't help but still feel out of place sometimes. It felt like I still had to wait to be useful. A replacement once Abuela was gone." Mirabel let go of Y/N's shoulder, a little embarrassed by her gesture so she traced the droplets on the window to distract herself from her burning cheeks.

" I never got to relate to anyone to a certain level until I met you." Y/N, surprised, looked at the girl who was still focused on the rain. " I love talking to people, but the conversations feel empty. It felt short and it's unsatisfying. But when we became friends, well let's say I'm glad I almost got hit by your horse that day because after we made that treehouse. Rather found it-" she paused to laugh, to which Y/N can't help but laugh along softly with her.

" I felt like, I don't know. I escaped life for a moment. I escaped being a Madrigal."

Silence fell in between them again, shivers crawling up from Mirabel's legs to her chest as she waited for the shy girl's response. Y/N meanwhile was trying to stop the tears forming in her eyes. " Is...this what friends do?".

" Hmm?"

" After this conversation, I feel like this is something so much different than what friends usually do." The Madrigal felt her heart skip a beat.

" Does she know? Did she figure it out?" Mirabel couldn't help but panic as Y/N raised a finger to trace a droplet just beside hers.

" I'm betting on this one." Y/N joked, a grin forming on her face. Mira wheezed out a chuckle. " Yeah well I'm staying loyal to mine."

Y/N's droplet proceeded to slide down the window, the girl bracing herself as she watched the other tiny droplets travel around it in a faster speed. Meanwhile Mirabel's was going in a rather slow pace, making her cross her arms in frustration. Suddenly it started going down faster, to Mirabel's joy.

The droplet made its way down, slowly straying farther away from Y/N's droplet before it broke into two. The other piece made its way back to the other girl's travelling droplet, and both mixed into one before it finally fell at the bottom of the windowsill. Y/N and Mirabel stared at it in disbelief, not really sure who won.

It was just droplets, but Mirabel couldn't help but resonate with hers. It breaking into two seemed too familiar. She just hoped that whatever faith laid upon her would be like the other piece of her droplet.

The one that went back to Y/N.
