( Mirabel's pov )

" Four days have passed, I still didn't receive any letters."

I had my face buried deep in Isabela's bedsheets that morning hoping I could hear some reassuring words perhaps. No one else was left home except for her, and Dolores who just left to visit Mariano in secret. And it felt too dreadful to go back into that treehouse only to maybe find that box empty with no sign of Y/N's envelopes again.

Isabela's not being much of a help now either.

" She's not the type of person to ghost you or something. Maybe she's in her studies, and I don't know... you're just being clingy maybe!"
" I am not! I'm just concerned-!"
" Concerned? Why do you worry about her so much anyway?"

I immediately grew silent. No I can't just tell Isa about that prophecy. And no I can't tell her about my confused feelings for my best friend either. Both will lead to trouble either way.

Getting into trouble with Abuela was enough.

" Isn't that what best friends do?" I let out faintly. Isabela raised a brow before sighing in defeat (hopefully). " You have a point. But I'm just saying the level of concern you have for that girl is mildly ... different ... from the way friends usually do."

Then she looked at me dead in the eye, placing down a cactus. I gulped.

" Do you like Y/N?"

I could feel my face burn before throwing petals over her way. " No?! What m-made you go to that conclusion Isa?!". But I just watched her laugh, and this time I was more embarrassed than I was frustrated. " Why? Because you're being obvious about it idiot! Dios mio.." she argued. I faced away from her.

" We've known each other for two weeks, even if I did .. it probably won't make her comfortable." I mumbled. But Isa heard.

" And how are you sure of that?"
" ... she's from a rich family?"
" So?"
" She has a life full of opportunities because of her parents' statuses?"
" And do you think she's happy with those?"

I turned back to Isa. Ah I am an idiot. She placed a finger forward to fix my glasses before giving me a pat on the head.

" Sis you overthink too much sometimes you know? And jump into conclusions so fast. Remember to at least slow down and give yourself to think alright?"

" Thank you.."

Isabela hummed in response before pushing me out of her room. I shot her a perplexed look when we finally reached the doorway. " Now off you go, I have to tend to my garden soon. And y'know Abuela absolutely hates it when we leave our rooms messy before leaving. And besides ..." she bent down to whisper to my ear. " Casita might snitch on me like last time."

The house responded by moving a desk towards our way, hitting Isa's waist. She grimaced. " Ow! Okay okay!"

As she got redirected downstairs with the tiles her voice echoed down the hall. " Remember what I told you okay?!"

And with that Isa danced her way outside, just in time for Dolores to walk in. We locked eyes before she immediately made her way upstairs to her room. " Wait Dolores!"

Sticking a foot in the way of her door, Dolores squeaked in surprise before looking at me with her widened eyes.

" I won't tell Abuela that you snuck out alright? I just need to ask-"
" Okay first, thank you. And second, it's about Y/N I suppose?"

You can't keep secrets in La Casa Madrigal I guess.

" You don't need to worry about your girlfriend, I heard her footsteps and humming from your treehouse a while ago."
" She isn't my girlfriend!"
