(2) Potential Dinner... Date?

"Hey, (y/n)," Camilo blushed as he held your arm tightly. Suddenly, his face and body changed into an exact mirror of yours. You yanked your arm away from his grasp.

"Cut it out, Camilo. I'm not in the mood," you responded harshly.

"Okay, I'm sorry." He changed back into himself quickly, his five feet four inches being only an inch taller than you. "But, look, my cousin seems to like you already so... would you like to have dinner with us tomorrow night? Abuela lets us have dinner guests over sometimes and I think if she met you, she'd like you."

"Yeah, I think I would like to have dinner with you." you smiled.

"Great!" Camilo winked and ran off to join his mother, who was having a hard time keeping her cloudiness under control. What a good son Camilo must be, you thought. It looked like he could calm his mom down almost instantly, which is something you admired. Your mother ran away with a mysterious man shortly after you were born, so you never had any real memories of her. According to your father, she was a nice woman, but she kept a lot of secrets. One of which is the affair she hid for a year, during her pregnancy.

You followed your dad home shortly after finishing your conversation with Camilo. The party was still going when you left, so you had no idea what was happening at the Madrigal house right now. You hoped Camilo and Mirabel would be okay for the rest of the night without you.

Once you got home, you settled into bed. Your room was upstairs, and every stair was agonizing on your aching joints. You were tired from the night of partying and needed a rest.

As soon as you felt yourself drifting to sleep, you were woken up again. Your father was gently shaking you and once he saw you were awake, he dropped something on you.

"This came for you. One of the Madrigals dropped it off - must've been important." He shuffled out of your room and down the stairs. You carefully opened the shimmering envelope, the gold metallic surface as soft as butter. When you opened the envelope and slipped out the paper that was inside, you saw that it was some aged paper with a note on it. A letter! But from who? you thought. You opened the folded paper eagerly and read its contents;

Hey, hermosa. I don't know how much you enjoy my presence or being around me, so I thought I'd write to you instead. Maybe we could be penpals. Anyway, I just wanted you to know that I'm excited to see you tomorrow night. I have something planned... don't get too excited. Mirabel has told me that she takes a great liking to you. I guess that's a good sign. I want to ask you something when I see you tomorrow.

Yours, Camilo

Was Camilo Madrigal really writing to you at this hour? You looked over at the wall clock and found that it was only 10:30 pm. So much for it being "late". You gazed out your window, wondering what the secret question Camilo had to ask you was. Just then, your father burst into your bedroom, looking startled. You flicked on your lamp and set the letter from Camilo on your dresser.

"What is it, papi?" you asked.

"The Madrigals - their house - cracks!" You encouraged your father to sit on the bed and calm down.

"Tell me exactly what happened," you say calmly.

"After we left, the casita started cracking! Only Mirabel and a few guests saw it, but it was there. All of Encanto is talking about it!" he explained. To you, it sounded like a load of bull, but you decided you'd investigate tomorrow. Tonight, your priorities were getting to sleep.
