Compliance will be rewarded

Kiki and Lee were walking around the jet. It had been 6 years since they last saw each other, and there was a lot of tea to spill. They walked into the weapons room.

"-and James - you remember James - he got this really awful beard so I started to call him Beardy and then it kinda became his code name... Lee?" Kiki trailed off as Lee had no reaction. Her eyes became vacant as she stared at the abandoned gun on the table. Her mouth curved up in a smile as she turned back to Kiki.

"Lee? What's going on?" Kiki was scared. Lee had never been like this before. Lee picked up the gun and pointed it at her, still smiling.

"Compliance will be rewarded," said Lee.

"No." Kiki raise her hands and called on the mist, pulling it towards whatever part of Lee's brain was being controlled.

"Hail Hydra." Lee said in that vacant voice. There was no Lee in it.

Kiki wasn't fast enough.

Lee pulled the trigger.

And the smoke couldn't stop the bullet.

"Kiki, are you ok? You just stopped halfway through your sentence. And why am I holding this gun? Kiki?" Lee looked confused. She was back to herself.

"Don't you remember, Lee? We were talking about the extensive weapons supply." She winced and held her stomach. Lee's expression turned from confusion to worry. "I've got to go, Lee. She you later?"

"Yeah, Kiki." Lee held the gun awkwardly, as if she didn't know what she was doing.

Outside, Kiki clutched her stomach, trying to stop the bleeding. That was what you were supposed to do, right? She had to find someone. Her chances where better if she found someone. But who could she trust to save her?

There was only one person who would know what to do. Sola would panic, Lee might finish her off. Yes, there was only one person for it.

She turned and started stumbling towards Bucky's room. It wasn't far from the weapons room, which was probably not such a good idea, but useful for her.

She barely knocked, not having the energy, and barged in. He wasn't there. What now?

She sat, her head spinning, as she thought of what to do next. She felt like throwing up and retched into Bucky's sink. Blood filled her mouth, and dripped into the basin. Shit, that meant it was bad.

Suddenly, an idea came to her. She staggered towards the closet she knew he kept his gun in (don't ask how). She grabbed it and fired two shots at the ceiling, leaning on the side of wardrobe for support.

She heard quick footsteps echoing down the corridor. Good. If it wasn't Bucky, it'd be someone who knew what to do.

The door slammed open and Bucky ran in.

"Kiki? What are you doing here? I heard gunshots." He was confused, but he seemed... happy? Happy to see her?

"Barnes." She stumbled forwards and grabbed his arms to hold herself up.

"Ki? What's wrong? Is that blood?" He raised a hand to her mouth but she swayed and he caught her.

"Oh, Bucky. They got her. They got Lee." She started to cry hysterically.

"Who? Who got Lee?" Bucky sat her on the bed and she clamped her arms over her middle again.

"We can't let them get anyone else, Barnes. No one else." She looked calm saying that, but then the black closed in and she shut her eyes.

She was falling. Literally. Falling backwards.

She couldn't control her body as she felt her hands slip off her wound. She could hear Bucky worrying and she mentally smiled.

"Ki? Ki! Stay with me, Ki!"

What did she mean? Who had gotten Lee? And who had shot her?

He ran down the halls to the med bay, carrying her bridal style, dripping blood into a trail behind them. That would be a nightmare to clean up.

"Get Sol!" He yelled at a passing agent. "Come on, Kiki. You can get through this. You have to wake up!"

"What's going on?" Hayl said as he walked into her lab. "You're getting blood all over the floor. Wait, whose blood is that?"

He set Kiki down on the table. "Save her."

"I'll do my best. You! Get the bandages. Make yourselves useful, everyone!"

Sol was running down the narrow passageway towards the lab.

"What's happening? Someone said you told them to get me," Sol said when she reached Bucky.

"Kiki's been shot. You have to help her. I'm going to find out who did this." He stalked off, still thinking about what Ki said.

'They got her'. What did that mean? He couldn't work it out, but he knew he had to find Lee.

She was pacing in her room.

"Bucky!" She stopped as he walked in. "Have you seen Kiki? There was something happening earlier, and I don't know what it was about."

"Talk me through it." He said, running a hand through his hair.

"We were just catching up, and she told me about James, and then I blinked and she was looking shocked and I was holding a gun. I don't remember anything past 'James'. Is she alright? She just told me to come back here." Lee sat down, then stood up, unsure of what to do with herself.

"Lee, I'm going to need to take you to a cell while we figure out what happened." It hurt Bucky to do it, but he had no choice. If 'they' had got her, who knows what 'they' had done to her.

He found two agent to take her to a cell and dropped down to the floor. Kiki had to be alright. Who would he be without her?

"Excuse me, Mr Barnes," said a new recruit from beside him. "Hayl sent me."

"Is she ok?" He said, standing up.

"I'm sorry, Mr Barnes. She's gone."
