I waited. I waited for her to come back. I have been sitting on this couch for hours, my phone rang and my heart leaped out of my chest when her name popped up on my screen. " Dahlia?" I said into the phone. " No, Lance. It's me Anna" Her mother spoke into the phone, her voice weak " Where's Dahlia?" I paced around the room " Dahlia was in an accident last night." I felt as a sharp pain hit my stomach and felt the room spin " Is she okay?" I said trembling and shaking at the thought of her being hurt. " She's in a coma" I hung up the phone and fell to my knees. I tugged at my hair and cried. I sobbed and punched the ground. Max creeped under me, licking my face and wriggling his tail.
I sat back on the couch trying to regain myself before Max started to scratch at the door " I'll go get her, Max. I promise I'll get her back" I grabbed my car keys and drove to the hospital, my feet never leaving the gas. I rushed into the hospital and stopped at the reception " Dahlia. Dahlia Valentine" I snapped at the woman " Second door on the left" She gave me a worried look. I ran to her and froze when I saw her, laying down in her bed. " Lance" Her mother walked to me and put her hand on my shoulder. My eyes began to tear as I stepped closer to her, I took her hand in mine and sat on the chair beside her. Her face was angelic but bruised and scratched. I felt guilt and pain but I kept a brave face and wiped the tears away. " Go. I'll stay" I spoke to her mother who seemed tired and drained.
When her mother left, I felt a tear rolling down my cheek. A nurse walked in the room and checked some things before giving me a smile, the look of empathy on her face. I slept next to her for weeks, waiting for that day that maybe I can watch those caramel eyes flutter open and I'll have my Dahlia back. Lorenzo came to visit a couple of times, he gave me a glare and stayed silent in the room resting his back against the wall, her mother on a chair and I was sitting next to her, her hand in mine.
I got a phone call and had to leave. I tried to go see her but I was too tied up with work. I was sitting in my office when my phone buzzed and started to vibrate in my back pockets. " Hello?" I said into the device " She woke up!" Her mother yelled through the phone. I rushed out, not even closing the door behind me. I nearly slipped running through the long halls. Finally I stopped at her door and watched as a group of people surrounded her. Anna was holding her hand as she looked at Lorenzo. Her mother moved for me to pass. I looked at Anna who had a worried expression on her face.
Finally, I was struck by her beautiful face, her cuts had healed and she had a small smiled plastered on her face. " Dahl?" I spoke as I scanned her face and stopped on her eyes. She smiled at me and looked at her mother. She had a confused look on her face and a fake smile. Anna placed her hand on my shoulder before Dahlia opened her mouth " Who are you?" Her voice was small and she nipped at the skin between her fingers, a nervous habit she had. " You don't-" I started to say as my throat began to close and found it hard to breath. " No. Should I?" She asked, grabbing Lorenzo's hand " Do you remember him?" I said, signaling to Lorenzo " Yeah, He's a friend of mine. But I can't seem to remember you" Each time she repeated the words my heart shattered into a million pieces. " We just met once" I said, trying to be the best I can for her. " Dahlia" She put out her hand for me to shake " Lance" I said, my skin burning at her touch.
I walked out and sat in my car. I started to punch my steering wheel and tug at my hair. She had forgotten me but remembered him. That's what she wanted when she left, to forget me and she did. The house was silent and empty without her. Max wouldn't stop crying and scratching at the door waiting for her to come back. Her mother passed by taking back her stuff. She was staying at one of her friend's house, a nurse she worked with, Kimberly.
I used to pass by her house each morning, making an excuse that I had to walk the dog and needed some exercise. I glanced up at her window and watched as she sipped on her coffee in her pajamas. Her white shirt was tight against her chest, exposing some of her cleavage. What I would do to have her again? To kiss her lips one more time. She walked into the Café I was hiding in and I pretended to order a coffee " One vanilla ice latte" I said the first thing that popped through my head, one of her favorite drinks, may I add. " Lance?" I heard her voice slowly whisper from behind me. I turned around and looked at her. A wide smile spread across her face and I felt my muscles relax.
" Hi" I smiled " Small world huh?" I said, trying to make the situation a bit less awkward. " Yeah. It's a good thing" I raised an eyebrow at her " Is it?" Dahlia Valentine are you flirting with me? She bit her lip and smiled " Are you busy?" She asked and I shook my head as we both took our drinks in our hand " Not really why?" I said, my heartbeat increasing rapidly " Do you want to sit?" She pulled out a chair and sat down, I quickly did the same. We chatted for a while and with each glance, laugh and just the sound of her voice made me feel alive again. " I feel like I know you" She said " What?" I said, my eyes widened at her words " Where we friends before the accident?" " Something like that" I said, mentally smirking.
