DARK MINESHAFTS.

 1774, NOVEMBER 28th, MONDAY 5:45 am.

A scowl made its way across Noche's face. Her eyebrow twitched and she crossed her arms. Blonde hair danced all about in the wind as she fell with the group.

"How long!" She shouted. "How long is this GOD DAMN elevator shaft!"

Vida was laying in the air as if she was in a bed, Tak was doing multiple flips, Boots was falling head first, and Jack was flailing about like a flightless bird. Above the group Shaylin, who held Professor Grim and descended at a slower pace.

"It's been about three hours!" Shaylin shouted.

"How the hell have we been falling for three hours!" Noche screamed. "What is this? What is this! That secret agent children movie?!"

"I-It's a pretty unnatural fall," Tak said.

Noche peered into the darkness."It goes on forever!"

"Thank you, Noche," Shaylin shouted. "I really wanted a reminder of how high up we are."

Noche cracked a grin. "Was that sass?"

"I don't like heights! Ok!" Shaylin blushed.

"It shouldn't take this long," Boots muttered. "The elevator ride was never more than fifteen minutes... Something's wrong."

Noche frowned. "If this goes on any longer—"

"— We're here," Vida said.

Noche turned to her. The blind girl grinned and spun to a standing position. Noche's eyes widened and she created wind to slow her descent. One by one the party slowed their progress. In a matter of seconds, everyone's feet landed on the smashed remains of an elevator.

Through the cracked remains of the doors, Magpie's floor was laid bare. A long, dark hallway more akin to a coal mine than a conventional room. Wooden planks held back tons of dirt and dead roots. The air was stale, thin, and there was a cold dankness to it.

It was a small, tight mineshaft at a little more than six feet tall. Almost two-thirds the height of the average, nine-foot-tall, room. Its ceiling had wooden rafters in the shape of a triangle. They acted as a brace to support the weight of the dirt and prevent potential cave-ins.

Every so often a porcelain doll was hidden on the sides of those wooden triangles; spaced out a good distance from one another. Below those figurines was always a lit candle surrounded by decades worth of wax. Otherwise, these halls were filled with obscuring darkness.
