The Fox's Third Flash of Hope

Chapter 22

If NONE of you can guess who those three are, then I must be REALLY bad at character descriptions. Comment if you know who ^.^ A picture was long overdue, but I think they all turned out quite different from what we were all imagining. And no, that's not what they normally wear on missions.

The rest of the day was relatively boring, and due to waking up at 2 in the morning, Kansen spent it in a state of inactivity and lethargy. She kind of flipped through the little notebook a few times. There was only information on five people. Naruto Uzumaki. Sasuke Uchiha. Madara Uchiha. Obito Uchiha. Toneri Otsutsuki. Why the hell were three out of five Uchiha?!

Each figure had a few colored pencil illustrations. She wasn't sure if it was trustworthy information or just someone's imagination run wild, since the abilities were nothing she had ever heard of before. At least, no other books had included them. Six Paths Sage Mode? Rinnesharingan? Tenseigan? Juubi Form? It was on a complete different level than the powers that were overused as book material.

In the end, she decided to quit thinking about it. It was a notebook with information on people. Period. She set her alarm clock to nine, and promptly fell asleep.

The next morning Kansen wandered around the village. There were more ninja than usual hopping around the streets. Distantly she caught wind of something about emergency supplies and more weapons. First: thank god her ears were working properly again. Second: looked like war preparations had already started. Missions would definitely be a different type from what they had received so far. Today was Boruto's team's last day off. How should she spend it.....?

Penami already had plans for her two teammates, and all she had to do was find them. Which was no simple task. Niju apparently lived alone, and was a total shut in, so that shouldn't be too hard. But Kansen.........that redhead could be anywhere. She didn't have a pattern to where she went. It seemed that she had an extreme habit of pacing around the village in her free time. The brunette leaped onto the roofs, heading towards Niju's apartment. A glimpse of dark red flashed by her vision. That color......no question about it. She turned around and saw her red haired teammate walking down the street.

"Hey Kansen!" Penami had really gotten lucky. Who knows how long it would have taken her to locate Kansen otherwise.

Kansen glanced at the brunette as she jumped down next to her. "Yo."

"Do you have anything urgent to do?"

"No..?"

"Then why don't we spend some time training? Without weapons. I think it's time we started preparing to fight in the war."

"Sure. I could use some sparring, since I spent the last few days pretty much not moving."

"Good. Let's go get Niju as well."

The boy obviously didn't have much choice in the matter when both of his teammates showed up at his door, so he just followed along. "Where are we going anyway?" he asked when Penami led him and Kansen towards the borders of the Leaf's premises.

"Remember that obstacle course Boruto-sensei made us go through on our second day? I was thinking maybe that clearing next to that waterfall," Penami said.

"Oh," the mention of that obstacle course brought back slightly unpleasant memories for Niju, but the clearing at the base of the waterfall was a pretty nice spot. "I'm okay with that."

"Why not," Kansen stated. She hadn't needed to go through the course since she had gotten the bells, so she had no idea what it had been like.

The clearing was empty, and the sound of falling water flooded out most other sounds.
