Ahaha........I don't feel like writing an actual chapter........for no reason at all........anyway as promised here's the rest of the general family backgrounds for the characters, except these take place on Father's Day instead of Mother's Day like the other ones were. Oh hey, wattpad fixed the spacing~!
And I just realized that the names I originally chose for Kansen's parents that I wrote in Lantern Moon don't match with the plot I intend, so I went back and changed those.
Note: this takes place sometime before the chunin exams.
"So, you up for another trip to the cemetery?" the jonin poked her head into the room.
Kansen looked up from her computer. "I guess. It's Father's Day already?" As usual, she had no info or interest whatsoever when it came to holidays.
"Yep," Senai smiled. She had on knee length shorts and a sleeveless tank top. "One month goes by really fast, doesn't it?"
Kansen stood up and stretched. "Yeah, I suppose." She had spent the entire morning digging into the background of different Kages from different villages. For what reason, she had absolutely no idea. She had just been bored after waking up.
In consideration of the rising temperatures in the middle of June, the redhead decided to ditch her jacket. She switched out her gray long sleeves for an unadorned, purple T-shirt. Since she wasn't in ninja gear, she put on a plain gray choker instead of her black one with the symbol of the Leaf. Her pants and boots would remain unchanged.
"You seem to be ready, so let's go," Senai was already down the hallway and at the top of the stairs, ready to descend. Kansen jogged slightly to catch up, treading lightly in her sock wearing feet.
As they walked through the bustling village streets, signs for discounts and limited edition items were practically everywhere: specially made tags in the windows of the larger shops, a poster hastily taped on the storefronts that didn't have that much money, wooden signs outside of restaurants that flamboyantly showed off the new menu items available only on particular holidays. There was no doubt that most of the advertisement was for profit, and many merchandise owners simply thought of holidays as lucrative opportunities. But of course, there were probably some business runners that legitimately cared about the meaning behind holidays. Those were really rare though.
At first they seemed to be on the path to the flower shop, but then Senai abruptly turned away from the direction at a crossroad.
"Aren't we going to the Yamanaka's flower shop?" Kansen inquired. Not that she minded the possibility of not going to get flowers, it was a pain anyway. She was just curious.
"Nah, your father wouldn't appreciate flowers on his grave. He's just not that type of guy. Just visiting him will be enough," the bluette smiled. She was in an awfully cheerful mood that day. Normally she didn't smile that much.
"Oh," that still didn't give Kansen much insight on her dad's personality, but it was better than nothing. "You know, you should probably tell me his name."
"Shukiro Kaibira. His surname means sea petal, so that might be why he never had a penchant for flowers. None of his family members did either." She remembered that one time that someone had attempted to make a joke out of the guy's surname. Needless to say, the offender didn't get away unscathed. The unwitting insulter hadn't been punched in a dark alley by Shukiro himself, who was too logical to actually beat up a fellow Leaf ninja, but rather by one of his friends and old teammates. Senai just may have been that friend and old teammate.
"I see," that piece of information was slightly more relevant than what she had gotten out of her guardian before, but still held little to no value. Last month she had managed to get bits and pieces on her mom and put together a good idea of what she had been like, and had found that name scattered frequently throughout her research, leading her to assume that it was her dad. Senai had simply confirmed that fact.
