The last 6 animals in here have all done harm to the native wildlife one way or another, for this one, I could not find ANYTHING whatsoever on any harm this fella has done and so lucky number 7 is the one to break the loop of invasive species bad, and oh my god do I love this animal.

The Spread

A lot like other animals such as the bullfrog, this animal got its way to Britain by escaping from private collections, this time though it was in the 1920s so they've been rocking around here for quite a bit.

Fun Facts

This duck is regarded as the most beautiful duck in the world.

Even though they're invasive they're protected by LAW to not be killed (The Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981)

Population Status

Least Concern

UK Breeding - 2,300 pairs (6,400)

UK Wintering - 7,000

There's an estimated 65,000-66,000 Mandarin ducks in the world, so that's more than a tenth of the population living in the UK

Diet

Like most ducks they're omnivorous, they eat insects, vegetation and seeds, don't feed them bread though it's not good for ducks 😤

Size and Weight

The length can be 41 up to 49cm and with a wingspan of 68-74cm

The weight can range from 430-690g

Native Location

You can probably tell from the name alone that these are from China, which is right, the majority of them do live in China, but there is a good few of them living in Japan and a lesser but still big enough to be recognised population in Siberia

Habitat

Swift flowing Freshwater bodies, in Britain you might find one in a canal I stg I saw one in the Leeds-Liverpool one but I just don't have a picture of one I'm fuming. Maybe I'm just going mad a little bit though who knows.

Here's where to find them in the British isles, everyone gets a chance to see one of these! And some of this does go through the canal so maybe I'm not just remembering it all wrong.

I know this one was short compared to the other but when the animal doesn't cause any problems you can't diss them on anything so no long paragraphs of typing.. anyway.

Just a couple of pictures of them
