A strong blast blew down the front door, splinters flew through the air, purple smoke filled the air, and Maggie's piercing screech rang out in my ears. For a moment, I was temporarily deafened. The explosion shook the whole house and knocked me on my ass. The lights flickered off and back on. I looked around, trying to find Brohan and apprehend the one responsible for the attack, but some kind of toxic fumes burned into my retinas. The purple venomous gas was a known weapon of only one beast, the demon, Kletas.
"Well, well. What do we have here? Seems the human male wasn't lying, fellows. It is the one and only minotaur hybrid." I heard a scratchy voice say from around me. His voice sounded as if he smoked one hundred packs of those things humans called cigarettes a day. The smoke cleared, and my enemy came into view.
The olive-green villain was over a foot taller than me with shiny purple horns and claws to match. His body polluted the air with his venomous gas and excretions. He was truly a force to be reckoned with and apparently, he brought friends.
Where is Brohan? I thought to myself before steeling my emotions and looking the demon directly in the eyes. Kletas was an old demon, at least one thousand years old, maybe older, and he preyed on the weak. He took whatever he wanted; no tricks involved. I was surprised he was looking for me.
"Why are you here Kletas?"
There wasn't much he could possibly from me, as the space grew clearer, I notice the other henchmen at his side. There was the young hellhound, Razor, a black and red half-dog, half-demon beast. At only two hundred years old, he enjoyed tearing his enemies to shreds, devouring their bodies and souls, if they had one. The other was Rifter, an old skeletal dryad. Once a lord of his own forest until he offered his own people as sacrifices, causing them to cast him out. He was rumored to have joined forces with the demon realm. Now I knew it was true.
"You don't ask the questions, bull-boy, we do!", barked Razor. "Where is the human?!" They wanted Maggie. I should not have been surprised. I knew her purity would make her a hot commodity. I just did not realize how soon others would start coming for her.
"Now, now, Razor. Is that how we talk to someone we want something from?", reprimanded Kletas. He growled but held his tongue. Rifter just seemed bored with it all, like he did not want to be here. I immediately took a defensive stance, preparing for the inevitable.
"Xorn, I do not want a fight, I just want the girl.", Kletas offered.
"Yeah, says the demon who blasted down our door and runs with not one, but two terrible monsters. To me, it looks like you are itching for a fight.", I stated with certainty. One could not face this old demon and show weakness. "Besides, I have no girl, so you came here for nothing."
"Don't lie to us, bull!", spat Razor.
"Back off, Mutt!", I retorted, dragging my hind hoof across the carpet and readying my horns. Razor appeared set to pounce.
Holding up his clawed hand, the demon stopped him. "I can handle this, Razor."
"We know you have been traveling with a female human by the name of Maggie. We also are aware that you have become somewhat obsessed with her, you along with our human informant. We can get this information the easy way, or we can do it the hard way. That is your choice."
I prayed for Maggie to stay upstairs and not give herself away. I also cursed Brohan for disappearing on me so quickly, leaving me to fend off these nuisances on my own. Before I could lie once more, Maggie screamed again. All the monsters turned their heads, glaring up the stairs.
