Epilogue Part 2: 8 Months Later
"How much further, Xorn? We've been walking all day." Truth was Xorn had walked most of the way. He demanded I let him carry me not even thirty minutes into our trip and I did not put up much of a fight to do otherwise.
"Almost there, my sweet. Now, stop squirming or I'm going to bend you over the next thing I see." I wiggled a little more just to temp him. I was not opposed to a quickie in the woods. Seems the little demon baby had my hormones raging.
If our calculations were correct, this would be our final trip to see Twyla, the healer to a camp of orc beasts located deep in the forests of Minnesota. To say I was surprised Twyla was human would be a gross understatement. Especially considering Xorn hated most humans, besides me anyway.
Twyla, once an OBGYN in Lutsen, was captured by the orc horde and mated to their Captain. After she fell in love with her captor, she began studying under the horde's healer. How Xorn knew about her, I didn't know, nor did I care. She had been a great caregiver for me, not mention the only one Xorn will let within twenty feet of me.
Once we reached the lookout point of the Oberg Mountains, I knew we were getting close. Twyla met us at the gate. "Maggie, how have you been? Resting as I asked you to?" She was almost as overbearing as my mate. Almost.
"Of course, I have, Twyla. You know Xorn won't let me lift a finger. Besides, isn't it healthy for a mother to resume normal activities while pregnant? I mean you are carrying a child as well and you're not in bed resting."
"This is true, but I am not yet as far along as you, I still have a few good months left before I am due to deliver. You on the other hand, look like you will pop in moment now. Not to mention, you are pregnant with a half demon/minotaur hybrid. We still cannot be certain of all the dangers your condition poses. Now come. Join me in my cavern so I can exam you."
The healer's cavern was as warm and inviting as any home I've ever known. Lit by natural crystals embedded in the cave walls, it gave off a very calming ambience that instantly soothed my nerves. As during my previous exams, I removed my bottoms and laid down on the cot made of soft moss and leaves sturdily sewn together and stuffed with soft cotton like material.
Here there were no ultrasound machines or other testing materials. Otherworldly healers had magic, but Twyla only had her knowledge as a doctor and her intuition. Though the exam was a tad bit uncomfortable at times, I trusted her completely.
"Just as I suspected. You are rapidly approaching delivery. Your cervix is dilated five centimeters. I'd be surprised if your water doesn't break within the hour." As she finished speaking, my abdomen tightened and I felt a rush of fluid leaving my body.
"Looks like we are about to deliver sooner than I thought. Xorn! Matu! Come quick. I need hot water and towels. Lots of towels. Grab my herbs from the closet and more blankets. We are about to deliver the youngling."
Xorn rushed to my side. "My sweet, are you alright? Are you in pain? How do you feel?" Looking at the huge demon hybrid with his sharp horns and fangs, the normal human person would be scared out of their minds at the sight of the formidable beast, but his tender thoughtfulness filled me with pride and happiness. Tears flowed from my eyes, but they were those of joy. I knew in that moment there was no one, no beast or man, I would rather bring life into the world with or have at my side, than Xorn.
After a gruesome ten hour delivery, I finally held my minotaur-demon hybrid babies in my arms. Xorn and I were both shocked to find ourselves the parents of two twin bundles of joy. Twyla, that sly woman, knew from the very beginning that I was carrying twins. Apparently, she wasn't only a healer, but a seer as well.
Technically, Xorn won the bet we placed at the announcement of my pregnancy. I wondered what he would ask of me. I daydreamed of the many naughty things it could be as I watched him swaddle our tiny demon daughter and son in his arms.
My tiny miracles were large for newborns. Both were well over ten pounds and each a differing shade of red with tiny horn nubs growing in place. While my little girl was a light dusty red hue, my son was dark like his father. My daughter had my golden locks, and my son shared his father's brown colored hair with red streaks. Other than my hair and eye color, my children looked identical to their father. They were precious. The most adorable babies I had ever seen.
"Elysia and Euan. Those will be their names. I have never seen the heavens, but when I look into our babies' eyes, I know it does not get any better than this. In my dark life, I now have my own little slice of heaven." All thoughts of mind-blowing sex and bets were forgotten as I watched my own demon fall to his knees at the sight of our beautiful blessings.
The End (For Now)
A/N: I know it has been a long time since I got on and updated my story. Between work and personal life, I just could not find the time or inspiration to write. However, I am back and will be working on the next in the series immediately. I hope you enjoyed Xorn and Maggie's story. Thank you so much for reading!
