*Time skip 1 year  Kyuubi's POV*
'It's so boring in here. Why did his mind have to be a dark, dank sewer?'

Suddenly, I feel Naruto come under immense pain. I feel him start to get weaker.

'He has never been very strong, but him getting weaker and it being tied to this pain I feel from him. I need to help, he could be in trouble.'

I try my best to send chakra to heal him and hope this ends soon.

*Outside the seal  3rd Person POV*
Despite Hiruzen's best efforts to keep Naruto's status under lock, it got out quickly. The entire civilian population and even some shinobi only thought Naruto was the kyuubi in disguise. Hiruzen sent the entire civilian council to Ibiki for questioning, but none of them had a hand in it directly, so he couldn't do anything to punish them.

Now, a year later on Naruto's birthday, October 10th, he was getting the brunt of the orphanage mother's anger. She would starve him periodically and yell at him for small things like tripping, even though he just learned how to walk, or not knowing certain words, when he wasn't even speaking in full sentences yet. Now, she was beating him, and he was curled in a corner.

"This is what you deserve demon. One year ago, you killed my daughter and her husband. You act like you're just some innocent child, but I know what you really are demon," she screamed, while kicking and hitting him all over his body.

The orphanage mother continued beating Naruto for about an hour before she got tired and dragged him to his room. She dropped his broken form on the floor just inside the door, "don't come out of this room for the rest of the night you demon," she yelled before closing the door and locking for good measure.

Naruto was unable to stand and the sobs racking his body weren't helping. He dragged his body toward the only item in his dilapidated room, a stained and worn blanket in the corner. Naruto didn't realize that his wounds were slowly healing as he was lost in a sea of confusion and sadness.

The kyuubi was doing everything in its power to help heal him, but it was slow going due to the restrictiveness of the seal.

Unfortunately, this would not be a standalone incident for young Naruto. Actually, it would only get worse as time passed.

A week later, Naruto still hasn't seen anyone, and he was just sitting curled up in his blanket. Naruto was very lonely and very hungry, but luckily there was water at his door whenever he woke up in the morning. Naruto still didn't understand why exactly the orphanage mother hurt him and called him a 'demon', but he figured that he did something bad. Naruto wanted to make the mother happy, so he practiced walking and talking the entire week he was alone.

Talking was hard for Naruto, nobody really talked to him and if he made a mistake no one told him what he did wrong, they just yelled or laughed at him. Hiruzen tried to visit Naruto at least once a month, when he could get away from paperwork.

Naruto was curled up in his blanket reciting the words he knew when the mother unlocked his door and came into his room.

"The Sandaime Hokage is here to see you. I don't know why he insists on meeting a demon like you. *Naruto started slowly getting up, hope and happiness clear on his face* Come on, hurry up demon. The Hokage doesn't have time to wait on you," she said angrily as Naruto came forward as quickly as he could.
"You say anything to the Hokage about what I've done and I will make sure you never see him again," she threatened, grabbing and holding his arm in a tight grip before leading him to the Hokage.

"Ah Naruto, it's good to see you again," Hizuren greeted with a smile when he spotted the small boy.

"Hey Jiji," Naruto exclaimed happily and ran over to him.
