I grinned wildly as we ran.

"We made it out!" I laughed, and we slowed to a stop after what I was sure was about a mile.

I almost thanked the military there, otherwise I wouldnt be fine right now.

"You still good?"

"Yeah. But without a horse, it'll take a long time."

"But we will get there."

-----

We treeked on in silence, our breath puffing in short clouds in front of our faces.

"Let's make camp here, okay?"

"Okay. Let's.. lets just stick together." I gulped, after realizing how lonely I had been this entire time.

"Let's check this area, might be useful-" I noticed something and dashed over, kneeling by it, beginning to pull off the wreckage and debris.

"Help me out, theres something under here!" I grunted, yanking away a piece of aluminum siding or something- I didnt care. I moved quickly, pulling off bits of concrete and wood, even metal pieces.

Once we had gotten most of it away, I knelt down.

"Long dead, probably for many weeks."

"Shit, Joel. Look!" I pointed to the guy's chest.

There was a dogtag, but it was circular.

It had the symbol of the Resistance, an eclipse.

"I hope there arent any more." I said, and we moved on, only to hear a screeching noise.

Then a gun shot.

We both dove for cover, huddling inside a shop window.

"Shit. I thought we were done with those guys!" I hissed, muttering curse words.

"There's no way we're sleeping here tonight." he said, scowling over the edge and popping back down.

"No way we can really sneak out, either." I said, worried, scoping out the area.

"Maybe we can get to that medical area over there, grab what we can, and go." Joel muttered, before leaping over the windowsill and running. I hurled myself after him, catching up slowly, not wuite getting to him until we got to the doors.

"Fuck. How do we get in?" I enunciated each word with a push to the door.

"Going to have to find another way in."

I stepped back, surveying the wall- when I noticed a vent. Too small for Joel, but I could get through, then open the door from inside.

"Joel." I gestured to the vent. "I can fit in there, and get the door open." I didnt voice my concern for getting lost in the ventilation maze.

"Okay, get on with it then." he said, and I pulled the vent away, setting it to the side and crawling in.

"Okay," I turned on my flashlight, and began to search for an opening. The vents went left and right.  "Which way..." I muttered to myself. I remembered the center was to the left of the vent, so I turned left, trying to muffle my noises.

I saw a little light, and moved faster.

I found the gate! I rammed my shoulder against it, and it fell, clattering to the floor. I winced, before climbing out carefully, and going to the door.

"Fuck. I need keys." I said through to Joel.

"Quickly." he said shortly.

I whipped around, beginning to rummage in the drawers.
