Ever since I was little, I've tried to fix problems.
I like to help people who need it.
Like, from the twelve years I have known Amelia Hart, only two people have been able to calm her down when her anger gets out of hand.
Lucy and me, now a days, Ashton and me.
Like the time she got angry at Kara for calling her a 'living nightmare' and she didn't take it kindly.
She was about to jump, but I pulled her back.
(Remember, she's 5'4", I'm 6')
"Amy, calm down, breathe," I said.
"Let me go, Luke!"
Then I turned her around to me and told her looked at her.
"Calm. Down."
You know how eyes give away emotions.
I know when ️Amy is angry.
She changes. I can't explain it, but her eyes soften.
Or when Michael got drunk and I had to take him home.
I like to feel like people can lean on me.
I've prided myself on that.
And I want Clara to feel like she can lean on me too.
But, we just met, pretty much, plus I have the letter from Lucy to think about.
I'm really conflicted about the whole thing, I mean I want to read Lucy's letter, but Jen said I'll know when, as in the right time, as in its not a want, it's a have to. I don't have to read the letter right now.
After Jen left, I kind of just lied down in my bed.
Anyway, later that day I went to go see Clara.
I knocked on her door and Jen answered.
"Luke," Jen said.
This felt awkward.
"Is Clara here?" I said.
"Is that Luke?" I heard Clara say.
"Yeah," Jen said.
"Yeah, let him in."
Jen opened the door wider and I walked in.
Clara was sitting on her bed with a Mac Book.
"Hey," she said. She patted on the area next to her where she was sitting.
I sat down next to her.
"What do you want to watch?" Clara said, opening up Netflix.
"Supernatural, duh," I said, "what episode are we on?"
"Bugs, I think?"
"The one in Oklahoma?"
"Yeah, I think so," I said.
I put my arm around Clara.
Then I remembered Jen was still there.
"I'll go to town, I need to get some shopping done," Jen said.
"Bye," Clara said.
"Bye," I said.
"See ya," Jen said and she left.
We were quiet after she left.
"Is something wrong?" Clara said. "There's like tension between you two."
The letter flashed in my mind again.
"Remember what we agreed on?" I said. "Two months. You tell me why you came to Australia and I'll tell you about Jen and me protecting my flower."
"Can you just answer me a question?" Clara said.
"Only if I can ask you one," I said.
"That's fair."
I nodded. "Ask away."
"How bad is it?" Clara said.
"Like on a scale of one to ten?" I said. "Eleven."
Clara sighed. "Oh. Like did-"
"Nope, one question," I said. "My turn."
Clara nodded. "Okay."
"Was a boy involved?" I asked.
Clara laughed. "Not unless you mean my dad and brother, no."
"You have a brother?" I said.
"One question."
"Right," I said. "Okay."
Clara started the episode and placed her head on my shoulder again.
Like yesterday.
"I want to get to know you better," I said.
"Really?"
"We'll have quick fire, we'll ask each other questions."
"Okay."
"Favorite song?" I asked.
"Back In Black," she said, "ACDC. Favorite superhero?"
"Hulk. Favorite food?"
"Pizza. Can you surf?"
"I did one time," I said, "hobbies?"
"Photography. Favorite restraunt?" Clara said.
"Panda Express. Something surprising from your past."
Clara thought about it.
"I was in a car wreck," Clara said. "I was really little, I fell into a coma."
"Wait, what?"
"When I was like twelve, it was rainy and a sixteen wheeler hit the back of the car. Where I was sitting. I had brain damage. The doctors thought I would die or coma, and I almost did. I remember hearing 'This is your choice, Clara.' I fell into a coma. I woke up, thought. But I couldn't walk for a while. Even now my legs will hurt," Clara said.
"Clara..."
"Hey, it's fine, I mean I didn't die and I woke up," Clara said. "I mean it wasn't your fault. It was rainy."
"Were you scared?" I asked.
"Yeah, mostly because I didn't want to be in a coma forever and wake up and see everything change, you know?" She said.
I saw a tear go down her face.
I wiped it away.
"Clara, be honest with me," I said.
"It was scary, I guess," Clara said. "But the past is in the past."
But it wasn't. I know better than anyone that tomorrow never just dies. There will always be the memory, and yeah, the past is in the past.
But that doesn't change things happening.
