"You're doing it again," Evelyn spoke, breaking the silence that engulfs the house. "What is it?" She asked, putting down her book on the coffee table.
"Well, I've been thinking. Tomorrow is my father's birthday and I was hoping I'd bring you along and introduce you as my... lover." Eliza replied, almost whispering the last word. "But it's okay if you don't want to, I-I understand."
Evelyn eyed her for a while, contemplating what to say. She could see Eliza was now flustered, looking at her hands which seemed to be shaking. She felt herself relax, however, when Evelyn held both of them and gave her a warm smile.
"I would love to." A bright smile emerged from Eliza's face, hugging Evelyn as she couldn't contain the excitement.
"But are you sure?" She asked as she pulled away.
"Of course. Whatever makes you happy." Evelyn replied.
"Well that's not fair." she pouted.
"What's not?"
"What you just said. If we're to have a relationship it shouldn't just be to satisfy my happiness alone, it should do the same to you." Evelyn chuckled at the thought which sounded like music to Eliza's ears. She pulled the shorter woman in for a hug. "Whatever makes you happy, makes me happy," she said. She then broke the hug and reached out her hand to the young woman, caressing her cheek gently. Ever so slowly she inched closer. Eliza, realizing what her lover was doing could feel her heart beating faster and her breath becoming shallower. Her thoughts began to swirl in all places, but somehow she wasn't bothered. Her eyes flashed at Evelyn's lips then back at her gray orbs that somehow changed in a slightly darker shade. Like a magnet, Eliza leaned forward and closed the gap between them. Sparks of unknown yet pleasant emotions rush through her body.
Her thoughts were silenced. Her heart calmed down and her breathing became normal. Well, she shared a couple of kisses with her previous lovers, but she thought that this one was quite different, not to mention that it was from a woman. Still, it feels different. It feels almost heavenly. After a long kiss, they broke apart, and honestly, Eliza got sad upon losing the warmth. She looked deep into Evelyn's eyes before diving in for another hug which the older woman lovingly accepted. She nestled herself at the crook of her lover's neck, breathing in her calming scent. Happy that her thoughts were once again silenced.
It was at times like this when the world around them slowly disappears, leaving them alone in their own paradise. It's when Eliza feels safe and Evelyn feels accepted. A time when all the missing puzzle pieces are found and fit perfectly in the gaps. A time when they are both safe, protected by their love.
"Eve?" Eliza asked.
"Hm?"
"When's your birthday?"
"Why?"
"Just asking."
"Today." Eliza's eyes grew wide in shock, causing her to break free from Evelyn's hands.
"What?!"
"Why? It's not that important." she shrugged.
"Evelyn Craige! How dare you say that?" She stood up with hands on her waist. Evelyn did not understand where she was coming from so she just stared at the younger woman.
With a sigh, Eliza relaxed and said, "This will not do. We have to celebrate your birthday."
"Why?" she asked and furrowed her brows.
Knowing Evelyn, Eliza knew all too well that every logical explanation she will give will be swatted to the side as this woman eats logic for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. So, with a smile, she simply replied, "Because I said so." Before turning her back to head to the kitchen leaving her lover confused.
