A/N: This is going to be the last part! Enjoy!
Catherine didn't know how many tears she shed in the SUV. She didn't sob. It was just silent tears that fell down her face. She wasn't just Catherine anymore, she was Catherine Stark. A daughter and a sister. She didn't know what hurt more, that she had been lied to her entire life or that she had been robbed of a life with her brother. Brother. Tony was her brother. It was a concept she was having difficulty grasping.
She didn't know if James knew the truth. She hoped he hadn't lied to her as well. It would only make her more upset if he had known. He had known she had been adopted, but did he know the truth about her lineage? The Starks had been powerful and one of the richest families in the world. Her father had made his fortune from selling and creating weapons. He had been a genius evidently. Tony had continued that legacy until his accident a few months ago.
When they got to the SHIELD headquarters in New York, Tony and Catherine were separated. It was necessary according to Fury. She just thought Fury didn't trust her completely yet. Tony protested of course, but in the end he understood. She had to be registered into SHIELD's system as well as have everything updated for the United States government.
Finally, she was given clothing. It was a pair of sweatpants and a sweatshirt, but it was better than the robe she was wearing. She had been instructed to change in a small bathroom with no windows. She thought about escaping for a moment, but decided not too. She was safe. At least she hoped so. When she emerged from the bathroom, her heart stopped. Standing in front of her was someone she thought she would never see again.
"Natalia?" Catherine gasped.
The familiar redhead smiled at her. "It's Natasha now. It's good to see you."
"I-I don't understand. How are you here? It's been years since you left. I thought you were dead." She asked.
"Our situations are slightly similar. I won't get into the details, but let's just say a SHIELD agent saved my life." Natasha admitted. "Come on. I need to take you booking. This must be a lot for you."
Catherine nodded her head. "You have no idea. I don't even know what to think right now. I have so many questions, concerns."
"I know. The important thing is that you're safe. We won't hurt you. I promise." Natasha assured her as she escorted her to a room.
For the next few hours she was poked and prodded. She had pictures taken of her. Height and weight measurements. Finger printed. Hair samples. More salvia samples. She felt like a specimen and not a human being. Everyone doctor that entered the room didn't dare look in her eyes. It was if they were scared of her. She didn't quite understand why.
Finally, Fury returned back into the room with a an object in his hand. "I apologize for all of that. We're almost done."
"It's okay." She lied.
"The government has agreed to let you go. In normal circumstances you would be kept in a facility until we deemed you safe. However, your brother was insistent that he thought you back to his house. There are some conditions though. For one, this." He held up the object. "It's an ankle monitor. It tracks your every movement. You are not allowed to have access to any weapons. You'll be appointed a psychologist for a few months and must check in with me every week until I say so. Understood?"
"I understand." She said and snapped the tracking device around her ankle.
"Good. Stark is waiting to you in the lobby." He told her.
She stood up and walked over to the door that led her to her first ounce of freedom. She put her hand on the doorknob and then stopped. She turned to look at Fury who had the same unemotional composure. "Thank you, Director Fury."
