_______________________________My dearest beloved,
It has been a long time since you had joined
the guild. Travelling with merchants must be
fulfilling for you. I wrote this as to let you know
about our little boy, Henry. You have probably
heard about the worsening curse in our lands.
The money we receive from you has been a
blessing and I do wonder every day if you have
enough for yourself. Although the messenger
boy takes a portion of the shillings, I do not
mind giving it to him. The days have gotten
colder, make sure to wrap yourself up nice and
warm. Things have been surreal since the
heavenly bodies took our Henry away. I'm not
here to lie to you, my love, but I am at a loss for
words. Still, I get some food on Gertrude's
plate. If you were here, dear, things would be a
lot easier. Gertrude has been feverish just days
after Henry had passed and I fear that she, too,
would be taken from me. It wasn't just Henry
that fell but many of our friends and their
children too. I see some boys and girls on the
streets, begging to be given food or a home.
You and I would have taken them in but it
would seem that the plague takes them in
faster. The church has been helping me and
Gertrude to get by. I have been learning how to
read and write since you have been gone. I
hope it has been easy to read this. Keeping a
home together has never been this difficult
until you left and the plague started. If it had to
come down to Gertrude passing, my beloved, I
do not think I could ever wait for you. To join
her would put her and Henry's souls in peace,
surely, my dearest, you understand me. My life
was complete and you are the reason. May the
Lord above bring you safety.
Yours forevermore,
