A/n: at the bottom

Who'd think that the worlds greatest detectives first kiss would be stolen by a siren?

Definitely not him. But here he was, absolutely smitten and high on the joy of being lovestruck completely ignoring Watari trying to get his attention.

He was too dazed, thinking about the magical effects of that kiss. So sweet, so soft, so passionate. The taste of the ice cream lingered on your lips, your hand that caressed his cheek cold from the water you dwelled in, the teasing giggle you gave him that echoed in his head.

If he wasn't already lovestruck before, he was now.

"L"

He wanted another one.

He wanted all the kisses you could give, especially an underwater one fitting for a siren.

"L LAWIET-"

The sound of his full name snapped him from his daze, and pulled him back into reality.

"Huh-" he stammered, finding his father figure looking down at him.

"Are you going deaf? You're only in your 20s L I'm the one who should be going deaf here" Watari joked.

"Oh- uh... sorry I'm just, tired" L excused.

That wasn't unusual, with L's horrible sleep habits and all.

"Look, since you've been doing well with the boys and they've eased into the orphanage nicely I want you to chaperone them on the upcoming excursion" Watari explained.

That can completely left his mind. Since L wasn't a kid anymore he never really went in excursions with the orphanage anymore. So when they happened he was either off on a case or just didn't go since he'd outgrown it. Most of the time they'd take the kids out somewhere educational like the museum or zoo, and at the end of they year they'd get their annual reward excursion for passing their classes to the theme park.

L had been there, done that, a million times in his life at the orphanage.

"Why? I mean sure I'll watch them but why me?" He asked.

"Because they've gotten attached to you. If they'll listen to anyone about behaving themselves it's you. Plus it's their first time so it's best if they group up with someone they trust" Watari explained.

"Sure... where is it?"

Watari sighed, for the worlds greatest detective L could be really forgetful sometimes. Especially recently as something else seemed to be taking up all his brain space...

"The aquarium, so make sure they don't fall into the touch pool" Watari joked.

"Ok, ok. I'll keep an eye on them"

With the excursion arranged, L couldn't help but feel a bit nostalgic about it. He remembered going to the aquarium excursion way back when he was a kid too, and particularly remembered watching the sea horses.

Sea horses were pretty funky little guys.

But that wasn't all that got him eager to tag along, this was his chance to brush up on marine life and use that knowledge to have more in common with you. You did live in the water after all, you'd probably seen all the fish in the aquariums up close and personal a million times.

It seemed like everything in his life he'd somehow relate back to you. Ever since you both met. He'd never been so in love before so he just assumed this came with the experience, not that he mined. He liked thinking about you.

Especially after that kiss he was so hung up on.

Fiddling with the necklace you'd given him, he tried to get back in track with what he was doing. But the second something distracted him it was right back to you.

Your lure calls, your lips, your grace underwater, your kindness, how gentle you were with him, your beauty, your humour...

Everything came back to you.

"My god I'm hopeless-" he sighed, pushing his laptop aside knowing he's not going to get anything done in this state.

Leaning on the desk with his head in his hand, he glanced out the window watching the kids run around outside playing. As usual Mello was competing with Matt kicking a ball around while Near just sat under the tree and played by himself like he liked.

"Maybe this aquarium trip won't be so bad..." he pondered.

He was sure the boys would go nuts wanting to rush up to every tank to find the most badass fish. They'd probably spend ages watching the sharks. They'd enjoy it, which was good since this was meant to be fun for them.

"If only I found being (y/n)..." he mumbled to himself.

No one knew about you, and even with legs you looked very fish like with your webbed ears and scale patches. So it wasn't like he could just pretend you were a human friend, but he knew you'd probably tell him extensive facts about every fish you past of you came along. He liked listening to you talk, everything you had to say was interesting.

"Ahhh! L you have things to do stop drooling over a siren!" He complained to himself.

But he just couldn't help it, all day you stuck to his mind like a fish in a fishing net. As soon as he got the chance to head back down to you, he'd be throwing himself into your arms. Even if that meant getting soaked in the process.

If it meant being beside you, he didn't mind getting a little wet.

A/n: since this AU is more of a chill one, this story will be a little shorter (still pretty long though) than my other L stories. Since it's basically tooth rotting fluff mixed with L living out his childhood dreams with a splash of magic. It's more of a look into L's relationships with the boys and his ability to fall for someone that isn't human. So it's not a super dramatic story like my others. I thought it was about time for  me to make an easier read. Just thought I'd add that so no one gets their hopes up for any angsty major character deaths or anything. Just some easy going magical fluff for you guys here.
