I twirled gently in the softest dress imaginable. It was specially designed for me, by me, and Alfie was going to love it.
That's right. Alfie Deyes. 21. I'm Zoe Sugg, 24.
It was the 23rd of October 2014 and the night before the wedding. I was in our bedroom with Louise, Tanya and Darcy, who were my bridesmaids. Alfie had gone to Jim's house for the night - Jim, Joe, Matt and Casper were his best men - and Tanya had forced me to try on my dress because she and Darcy hadn't seen it yet.
It was ivory, a bodice glittering with rubies that were lined closely at the heart shaped neckline, then thinned out by the waist. The skirt was straight, edged by the same jewels that shone on my chest. A long, white scarf was draped over my arms. There was no train, as the veil, which sparkled lightly in the sun, hung to the floor with a few inches trailing behind. My tiara was the same rubies, but real, set in gold, and I had a gold and ruby necklace and engagement ring. My flowers, which would arrive in the morning, were red and white roses to fit with the red and white theme. My hair was in a normal plait draped over my shoulder to my waist and there were little fabric roses in the corresponding colours dotted throughout it.
Darcy saw me twirling and immediately demanded to wear her bridesmaid dress. Louise and Tanya were dressing in red, fitted, cotton bodices nipped at the waist with skirts that flowed to the floor and a little red scarf each that draped over their arms and hung down their backs, with the same hair and bouquets as me. Darcy had an exact copy, except it was knee length. A pair of white three inch wedges sat in the corner, next to two, identical, red pairs and a set of tiny red sandals for Darcy.
"I still can't believe that you designed these." Tanya whispered in awe. Darcy clung onto Louise's skirts and begged to be picked up.
We spent ages in front of the mirror, staring at the perfect fold of the skirts and the perfect drape of the scarf.
Eventually I showed Louise the double bed she would share with Darcy, and the double bed for Tanya, in our guest rooms. Then we put Darcy to bed at around seven, went down stairs and had an impromptu, alcohol free, silent hen party even though I'd had a proper one a few days earlier. We basically made popcorn and sat in front of the DVD player for half an hour deciding, before settling on The Other Boleyn Girl, which I had bought on impulse a few months previously. I'd never watched it before but it was really good.
It was two films and fourteen billion popcorn kernels before, at eleven, we went to bed.
We slipped into Louise and Darcy's room and saw Darcy sleeping peacefully. I slid between my own blankets and propped my pillows in the centre of the bed, spreading out for probably the last time for a while. Before I even had time to think about tomorrow, I was sound asleep.
