Chapter 39: Clam Raid

All of the collectors dashed away from their baskets and into the woods when they heard a giant siren go off. Some squids and Octos grabbed bronze clams, but Yumi ran deeper into the woods with her dualie Squelchers as Coraline followed right behind her.

Coraline: you're going straight for the golden ones?!

Yumi: it's better to rack up points now so we won't have to worry that much on enemies stealing our clams and gloomy clams going into our basket all that much.

Coraline gave Yumi a little nod and ran with her, but then, the two saw a squiffer aiming their shot straight at Yumi's head. Yumi quickly dodged the shot and slid on the grass with her Squelchers, shooting at the squiffer and splatting them, amazing Coraline.

Coraline: (her reaction timing......)

Coraline shook off her thoughts and ran with Yumi until they began to see some scattered golden Clams, and Yumi quickly slid and picked one of the golden clams up, then another. Coraline clenched her N-Zap and saw an Octoling boy with a carbon roller dash straight at her.

Coraline barely managed to dodge to the side of the roller's swing at her. The roller grabbed a burst bomb and threw it straight at Coraline, but Coraline dodged once more, shooting at the Carbon roller, only for him to dodge her shots and run straight at her.

Coraline: (shit!...he's too fast!)

Coraline continued to shoot while backing away until she tripped on a root of a tree, falling on her ass and dropping her N-Zap. The Carbon jumped up and swung his roller down at Coraline, but then Yumi quickly dashed up and used her dualies to block the attack, then pushed the carbon roller away.

The Carbon roller let out a grunt and landed back on his feet, then just as he was about to dash at Yumi, he heard something.....a weird ring....he turned around and saw a splat bomb right behind him.

Carbon: (she....threw a splat bomb....and I didn't even notice it.....she pushed me back to splat me with.....it........)

when he tried to react, it was too late, and Yumi's bomb exploded, splatting him in the process. Yumi walked over to Coraline with 3 Golden clams trailing behind her. She offered a hand to Coraline, and Coraline slowly took it, standing up and looking away from embarrassment.

Yumi: you seem off....you're not playing like yourself.

Coraline:.....m-maybe I'm just....cold....it's nothing big....

Yumi:....are you positive?

Coraline:....*nods*.....sorry for holding you back like this.....I know you're way out of my league.....

Yumi: you're my teammate....I trust you. I know you can fight.

Coraline:.....

Yumi: grab clams and come with me to return them.

Coraline saw Yumi walk away, and Coraline simply looked at her N-Zap, seeing her shaking hand and letting out a tiny sigh.

Coraline:....(am I really cut out for this?)..

Charlotte dodged a brella's shot and quickly shot her H-3 at them splatting them without breaking a sweat; she had 3 golden clams behind her as well, then began to walk back to return them to her basket, but the voice of an Inkling girl caught her attention.

Inkling girl: HEY!! PIT-DWELLER!!

Charlotte turned around and saw an Inkling girl with a booyah bomb in her hand, glaring straight at her with a very evil smirk on her face, but it didn't faze Charlotte one bit.

Inkling girl: you are the Octoling leader, right?!! How about you tell your fellow Octoling friends to head back down into the metro where they belong!!
