"Be My Forever"

Shailene's POV~

A tiny soft hand grabs my thumb, studying it with her light brown eyes. Luna surprises me everyday, she learns something new each day.

"Is my baby girl home?" Theo walks in from the kitchen, sitting down next to us.

I yawn and say, "Our little monkey is sleepy but won't go to bed."

Theo kisses me goodnight and takes Luna out of my hands. I figured he's going to put her down like he usually does if I fail to do so.

I take this time to check any messages or emails that I might have missed, also looking at wedding ideas. Then I hear a little "ding" and realize I received another message.

Lucas: You can't ignore me forever Shai. Let's be adults and talk this out. I rather not unleash my horrible wrath out on your new family and tell the media.

My heart leaps out of my chest, I grip my blanket for safety. Theo walks back in, notices me scared to death. He's going to threaten my family.

"What's wrong love?" Theo's eyebrows rise, grabbing me close.

"I- I can't tell you." Tears water in my eyes.

I can't let Theo be stressed over this and the more he knows, the more he can be in danger.

"Shailene, this has gone on long enough! I can't keep being with you if you're going to hide things from me." Theo groans and gets off the couch.

"If I tell you, you'll never look at me in the same way." I breathe in deeply, remembering the horrible night.

"Please baby, I won't ever look at you differently." Theo grabs my hands, kneeling in front of me.

I cannot hold back from his deep brown eyes, searching for answers. I gulp and begin with, "It was June 2nd 2009."

June 2nd 2009:

"Mom, where's the black dress with the open back?" I scramble in my closet, I need to look amazing for the party tomorrow!

It's crazy, tomorrow is my last day of High school! I'll be on my own, continuing my acting career. Maybe I'll audition for the trilogy, The Hunger Games that is coming soon!

"Shai, must you wear that? Why not a skirt or at least a less revealing dress?" My mom washes her hands, finished with the dishes.

"Oh hush Lori, it's her last night of being a teenager. November will be around the corner and she'll be 18 years old. An adult, let her make her own choices." My dad closes his book, finishing grades for this year.

My father was correct but I decided to listen to my mom. After all, she's always been right and I'm not taking any chances tomorrow.

"Alright well I'll be out with Lucas and my pals tonight. Hopefully it will be fun, all our other nights were studying." I kissed my parents goodbye and Lucas was already waiting for me.

"Hey beautiful, ready to go?" He pulled me into his muscular arms and kissed my forehead.

His hands twirled the long, blonde strands of my hair and stepped back, revealing a brand new car.

"You didn't!" I gasped, remembering I wanted this for my graduation present.

Lucas smiled big and said, "But I did. Happy One Year baby girl!"

It was a beautiful, dark red, pick up truck; I've wanted one since I got my driver's license! Lucas, my first love got me one and I'm amazed at how kind he can be.

"Come on, let's go take it for a spin!" He exclaims, both of us jumping into the truck.

I was excited, turning the keys and starting the engine gave me butterflies. I pressed the pedal gently and the truck drove smoothly, it was perfect!

"Lucas this is-"

"Shai!" He shouted and that's when it happened.

The Present:

Theo studied me carefully, waiting for me to continue. I gulped and held back the tears, continuing.

"I took my eyes off the road for one second, to thank Lucas but everything went wrong. I felt a big thump and a body flew onto the road." I sobbed, regretting everything that night.

Theo pulled me closer, wiping my tears and rubbing my back, trying to calm me down which eventually worked.

But even I knew I couldn't tell Theo the whole story, that I know I'd go to jail if anyone found out. So instead, I did the only thing and lied.

"Lucas took the person to the hospital and said he had hit her. He took the blame and now he wants something in return." I breathe in deeply, Theo nodded.

"What, like money?" He asked, smoothing my hair down.

I sighed and said, "No, money is not the answer. He wants love, he wants me."
