I woke up late, remembering Connor was picking me up for school. I sleepily glanced at the clock.
"EIGHT THIRTY!" I screamed, he would be here in a matter of minutes.
I quickly threw on a clean pair of black jeans, a faded green V-neck and a black pull over. I looked in the mirror. Looking back stood a too thin sixteen year old girl, with jet black almost blue hair going down her back, pin needle straight. Her eyes looked lifeless and brown. I sighed and put on my black converse high tops.
"I look like something you'd find in an eighties rock band." I told myself.
I stuffed my back pack with both mine and Liz's textbooks left on the floor from the previous night. The doorbell rang.
"I GOT IT!" I cried, not that anyone really cared, I was rushing downstairs and flung open the door to reveal a dazed Connor.
"Uhh, hey" he said probably feeling as awkward as I was.
"Hey" I answered.
"Let's go." he suggested.
"I'M LEAVING SEE YOU AFTER SCHOOL!" I shouted to my mom.
"HAVE A GOOD DAY!" she slurred back.
His truck was clean and smelt like lemons, he backed out of the driveway and drove to school. We passed the time with idle chit chat about out projects that we had due, and the latest news.
We got to school late, racing against the bell. When we got to homeroom, I took my seat beside Liz. Behind me, sat Annie. Staring at me with pure hatred for walking into class with 'her' Connor.
"Umm, Melanie, you and c-" Liz started.
"I'll tell you later!" I cut her off. She grumbled and opened her textbook.
"What class is this?" I asked dazily
"Geo" Liz giggled
"Then wha-"
"Mias Foster, Will you answer the question?" Miss Hazelle asked.
"Uhh, yeah, sure...What's the question?" I asked puzzled.
"I asked; where can most deserts be found? Come show the class." I groaned and got up.
"The answer is Africa Miss Hazelle" I said and forced a smile.
"Good!" she exclaimed, lucky for me, we learned this in third grade. I sat back down and found a note hidden in my text book. I looked over at Connor who was looking away and whistling an unknown tune. I looked at the note, neatly folded. I read, not noticing Annie peering over my shoulder. His messy writing scribbled across a ripped piece of paper;
I know you have a spare at fourth. Ironically, coach cut our practice in half so, In short, I expect to see you there. We'll hang out after, maybe go for a late lunch?
I giggled, and looked back at him and nodded. What I didn't notice was Annie who was scowling, and devising a plan.
I eagerly went to math class with Mr. Heibert, I was daydreaming about his eyes when he asked
"Melanie, what's the square root of seven divided by four?" he was getting impatient.
"Umm, can you repeat the question?" I asked. He rolled his eyes and asked the next student. This is one of the many reasons why he's my favourite. The class seemed to go on forever. Finally, it ended.
I rushed to my locker, fiddling to unlock it.
"Ugh." I grumbled, getting the combination wrong. I tried again, but hysterical laughter interrupted my attempt to open it.
