Draco’s POV
Draco ran to the dungeons and grabbed a quill and some parchment. He quickly penned his letter to the head healer and then ran to the owlery where he found his light gray owl and tied the letter to her leg before giving her a treat, some pets and sent her off. By the time he returned to the Great Hall, Blaise was giving him worried looks while Pansy was silently glaring at Astoria. Sitting next to Blaise, he frowned. “Pans, what’s wrong? Who do I need to hurt?”Pansy looked at him and sighed. “No one. Astoria was just telling us how you refused to sleep last night and that she fears Hermione has done something to you.”
Astoria glared at Pansy. “Don’t call her that. She’s a mudblood and doesn’t deserve to even be in our presence much less to be given a real name. She’s so far beneath us it’s ridiculous. She’s also why my family lost everything.”
Draco was seething. In the middle of the Great Hall, with no regard for the other students or faculty, he exploded. “I’M DONE! YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO CALL HER THAT FILTHY NAME AND SHE IS A BETTER WITCH THAN YOU COULD EVER HOPE TO BE. ALL YOU CARE ABOUT IS BLOOD STATUS AND MONEY ASTORIA! WELL GUESS WHAT? NEITHER OF THOSE MEAN ANYTHING. HERMIONE MAY NOT BE A PUREBLOOD BUT SHE HAS GOALS AND THEY DON’T INCLUDE SITTING AROUND LIKE AN ENTITLED PRINCESS! YOUR FAMILY LOST MONEY WHILE SO MANY LOST LIVES, DIGNITY, THEMSELVES! MAYBE YOU SHOULD LEARN FROM HERMIONE INSTEAD OF BEING A BRAT!”
With that, he got up and stormed out of the Great Hall. He was so mad, he left the castle altogether and went to the black lake. She had no right. And Hermione had nothing to do with her family losing their wealth. Besides, the Weasleys had lost Fred. He had lost his free will. Hermione had been branded. Harry lost his parents and godfather. So much loss. It actually made his heart hurt.
Sitting on the grass, he knew he needed to calm down before going back for their first class, so he took some deep breaths.
3rd POV
Blaise sat at the table listening to Astoria complain about how Draco wasn’t paying attention to her. Meanwhile Pansy didn’t want to hear it. “Astoria, did you ever think he doesn’t like you?”“Nonsense Pansy. We were paired because we’re perfect for each other.”
“Or maybe your father pulled some strings to get some notoriety back to your family. Draco’s father may be locked up and our families may have been affected, but we all still have our wealth.” She really couldn’t stand Astoria and the girl had no idea what Draco had been through. Pansy had watched him slowly fall apart though and she knew her best friend deserved someone who would love him hard and help him put himself back together.
“Regardless, we are set to marry. Granger keeps getting in the way though, filthy mudblood. Just because she’s head girl, she thinks she can poison Draco against me. Do you know he didn’t even sleep last night? He was up all night and he needs his sleep.”
When he came down to join them, Pansy didn’t feel the least bit bad about telling him everything. What she hadn’t anticipated was his reaction. When he was done though, Blaise glared at Astoria and followed his godbrother down to the lake.
“You know mate, she’s a spoiled brat and Pansy thinks her father had something to do with you two being paired. I agree, but either way, you know Pansy and I don’t think that Hermione deserves any of that, right?”
Draco sighed, but nodded. “Thanks Blaise.”
“Hey, what are godbrothers for? If you’d like, you can sleep on our sofa to get away from her for a while. I’m sure Pansy would love having you there.” He grinned knowing the two were like siblings even though they’d tried dating which both had agreed wasn’t going to work. They couldn’t even kiss one another without being grossed out.
