Chapter Eighteen

Hermione's POV

**two weeks later**

It was refreshing getting to swim every morning. Rose and Scorp slept straight through the night now and usually didn't wake until 9am which gave Hermione time for an hour's swim each morning from 7am until 8am, then she would get ready for her day before helping Draco get the kids ready for their day too.

Today however Hermione had slept in so instead of getting her morning swim before the kids woke up, she was getting an evening one now that she had put them to bed. She had also done an hour in the gym so her pool time was soothing the muscles she worked while exercising, ones she hadn't used yet.

Draco's POV

It had been a long, but productive day. He was thankful that he and Hermione had developed a routine with the kids. They both loved to say goodbye to her in the mornings and have her sing to them at night when she would usually tuck them both in. Scorpius was closer to Hermione than Draco had ever thought he'd be when anyone other than him and he couldn't express how grateful he was.

He knew she normally swam in the morning and this morning she hadn't, but he assumed she'd decided to forgo it for the day. Since they bathed the kids and put them to bed as well as got them ready in the morning together, he took care of them while she was training and he'd work in his lab when they napped or did paperwork while they played. He also played with them during the day. Today had been no different, but Hermione had put them to bed so he could finish some important work in the lab. Now that he was done, he went to find her. When he had checked the library and her room and she wasn't in either, he was headed to the basement, but heard a noise coming from the pool. Thank Merlin for veela hearing.

Carefully, he opened the door to see if she was in there and the image that greeted him made his veela surface. His eyes turned as dark as storm clouds as he watched her stand up in the sexiest emerald bikini he'd ever seen, although it was probably just because she was wearing it. If that wasn't enough, water glistened on her bronze skin and ran down her body.

Just as he would have gone in, he heard a pop and then heard Blaise who was looking for him. Before he could answer, the man was striding towards him. "Dray, what are you doing? About to go for a dip?"

Draco couldn't stop his veela as his claws elongated and he growled. It might be his best friend, but he was not okay with him seeing his mate look so gorgeous, especially since she was unmarked. "Don't take another step Blaise or I won't be held responsible for my actions." His voice had dropped a full two octaves, making his friend stop in his tracks.

"Dray what's wrong?" Noticing the color of his friend's eyes, he remembered what it meant and realized who he was probably guarding. "I'll come back later. We need to discuss a new formula request we received."

Hermione's POV

Hermione was tying back her hair when she heard the familiar pop of someone's arrival. She had turned to the door in time to see it closing behind a certain blonde. Figuring Draco was going to see whoever arrived she started to get ready for a dip in the hot tub, that's when she heard Blaise's voice followed by a growl and what sounded like Draco only much deeper.

At first this annoyed her and she had started for the door ready to scold him for being a prat- but when she opened the door and saw Draco her attitude did a complete 180⁰ turnaround.

"Hey" she said softly as she moved to him and placed a gentle hand on his arm "Draco, look at me" her voice so soft and soothing as she tried to calm the veela before her. "I'm perfectly safe. See? It was only Blaise, who is very happily married and in love with Pansy." She put a gentle hand on his cheek making sure he looked her in the eye. Her smile was soft and genuine "I'm alright. You can calm down." She was misunderstanding the reason he got all protective and had no idea that her bikini clad self was the initial trigger. And no she hadn't grabbed a towel yet as she had hurried out to stop anything bad from happening.
