There was a girl leaning against Caden's locker. It wasn't Adalia. It was Paige. Paige from third period. Adalia didn't notice Paige at first when she walked towards her locker. As to how Adalia was feeling, cloud nine could possibly be an understatement.

Caden and her went out for pizza the night before. She liked him a lot. He made her laugh a lot, too. Not the cute kind of laugh either. Snort, snort, wheeze, cough, giggle, and snort again. The type of laugh a girl shouldn't use around a cute boy, but she honestly couldn't care less.

Now, Adalia stopped mid step when Caden stepped towards Paige. Adalia never considered herself the jealous type, but right now, at this moment, she felt a bit jealous. If you were in Adalia's shoes, you'd feel the same way with Paige leaning toward Caden, twirling her hair. Adalia reluctantly looked away from Paige and at Caden, who seemed oblivious to the boyfriend-stealer's, from Adalia's third period math class, attempts at flirting.

Adalia shook her head with a slight smile on her lips. He was just too adorable. Just. So. Cute. Adalia stood there, unnoticed by Paige and Caden, thinking of puppies being almost as cute as Caden, when someone bumped her shoulder. She turned to say a few words of her choice that shall not be mentioned to whoever it was, but when she saw who it was, she froze. Him. Not her cute, almost-boyfriend, locker-buddy him, either. No, no, no. Him. The same boy she had been noticing the past week. The sad- no, the scary boy.

She stared at the pile of blond hair on the back of his head as he walked away. She shuddered a bit.

"Adalia."

She turned back to face her locker. The one with the boyfriend-stealer attached to it. She ignored Paige, and walked directly to Caden. A bit for show, and because she really wanted to, she kissed him. Right there in front of Paige.

When she pulled away, Caden smiled. "That could be classified as my favorite hello of all time," he said. Adalia laughed. Yes, the laugh she used the night before. Snort, snort, wheeze, cough, giggle, and snort again. A mix of all four is what you could call 'Adalia's laugh'.

"Adalia, you know Paige, right?" Caden stepped away from Adalia and gestured his hand toward Paige. Of course she knew who Paige was. It's not like she had been planning murderous ways to get Paige away from Caden for the past five minutes or so.

"Yeah. We have third period together," Adalia replied. She even added a smile that looked more like a grimace than anything. Paige had dropped her hand from her hair before she extended her arm toward Adalia.

"I'm sorry. I don't think we've ever met," Paige said. Paige's eyebrows furrowed a bit as she challenged Adalia to introduce herself. Caden even gave Adalia an expectant look as the two waited for some sort of reaction out of Adalia.

Her self-esteem slightly punctured, Adalia eventually shook Paige's hand. As they shook hands, Adalia noticed their differences. While Paige had smooth, straight, dirty blonde hair, Adalia's never even known what it's like to be anything but frizzy. The two girls were roughly the same height. Yet, Paige stood a bit taller, hovering over Adalia. Paige had blue eyes like the sky when there's a bit of rain. Paige had a slight gap between her middle teeth. The type of imperfection that made people like her even more. Her eyebrows were nice too. Everything about Paige radiated 'Nice'. Nice hair. Nice, bright eyes. Nice, pretty eyebrows.

Adalia was dark. A painting in black and gray. Dark hair and dark eyes. Just, so dull. Even her fingernails were painted some dark, blue-black color, while Paige's were pink. She liked Caden's eyes, because she thought of the stars. He was a galaxy himself. So amazing and beautiful.
