Sage
I had heard them talking. I knew I wasn't wanted here by anyone. The fox had told me about my mother and I knew everyone wished it was her instead of me here ruling. I was as shocked as everyone else that she was alive. I had mulled over the idea profusely since I was made aware of it. No one expected me to do any ruling after the war, so I just explored and got to know Sugarland. I walked all day to the other side, stopping along the way to meet creatures and introduce myself. I touched leaves and examined them closely - some were as big as my head. Most things were bigger here. Well, apart from faeries. They were so tiny and buzzed around like beautiful little flies. They are so much better than flies, I just don't know what else to compare them to. This place held the most magical creatures and scenery I had ever seen. Even if no one wanted me here, I couldn't leave and go back home now. How could anyone go back there after experiencing this place. My train of thought went to Bear. He would be back home now. I wondered how he was going but squashed down the thoughts quickly. I didn't want to think of him or care about him.
Ahead of me was the inn - a popular place amongst Sugarland residents. I went there often after the war. Lager was the drink of choice every time I came. It tasted different to a drink by the same name back home, but it was a nice taste of home all the same.
"The usual, Sage?" The barmaid asked as she slammed an overspilling glass mug in front of me. She didn't even have to ask. "It's queen to you." I joked sarcastically. She threw back a raised eyebrow over partly squinted eyes. I knew no one thought of me as queen.
"You're not fooling anyone with that decorated hair, princess." She finally snarled in a husky voice, turning to the person next to me. I slumped over, letting my hair fall over the glass as I put my forehead on the long wooden bar in front of me.
"They went in search of the queen." One voice piqued my interest. Suddenly a memory of similar words came to mind. I was sitting on my throne, mid war when the witchy lady's voice demanded two of her minions to go in search of the queen. I lifted my head to listen better. "I heard that they found her." another voice said. I turned around to see the source of the voices.
"What?" I interrupted, eyes wide. "They found her?"
"That's what I heard." A short elfen man shrugged at me, turning to go back to his conversation.
Chills ran up my spine. My mother was back.
