Bodel
Sage had showed up and my world had crashed down. As if it wasn't already destroyed... now she had to show up and take back my life from under me. I made my way over to her as she sat on a log near the water. I tried to remain calm as I approached her, but her reaction was enough to make me confident. She didn't want to be back here, that was clear and she hadn't made any attempt to see Bear, which I was thankful for, but I needed to ensure that she didn't change her mind. Darias came over to us and pulled at my dress. It wasn't rehearsed, but worked beautifully. His presence gave me the opportunity to rub my marriage to Bear and my queen status in her face, regardless of how strong my relationship with Bear was and my lack of power in this place. She looked as horrified as I had hoped when I informed her of how things would go down here, in my territory.
She stood up and walked back to the boat she had arrived on. She came with a woman who looked just like her and was now hovering near Sage's good for nothing drunken father. I cocked my head, watching the woman nervously watch the man. I said nothing and walked back to the boat. As soon as she saw Sage sitting in it, she started marching over with speed. I put two and two together and guessed that she was dropping Sage off here and Sage didn't want to be here. I couldn't decide if my glee for her discomfort overpowered the sick feeling in my stomach, that she was back or the other way around. I patted Darias on the head as a hand came to my back, catching me off guard. I jumped slightly underneath it. "You better make sure she doesn't take Bear from you." My fathers voice slithered into my ear like an unwelcome gift. Since officially becoming queen, my father had been very adamant on me becoming a ruling factor in this town, despite the death of my son. Now that Bear's father was dead and my own father had no power over any of this, he was making my life a living hell, to ensure that I would do something about it. It had been the bane of my existence, but all of a sudden, now that Sage was back, I had to admit that I agreed with him. I needed to become a ruler of this place and get my husband back.
Over the coming days, I became the best version of myself that I could be. I was nice to everyone, I was more than helpful with chores and I reminded everyone that I was married to the king and that I was the mother of the rightful air. Despite the pain of my son dying, I needed to do this to prove I could move past it and be the queen that they needed; because if I didn't, I would be cast aside and she would take my place. That would be a combined loss that was even greater than the pain of losing my son..
