Esmeralda wanted her necklace back. My face pulled with worry. I needed to keep that necklace for Violet or she would know something was wrong. Esmeralda couldn't know that though or she would know Violet had the necklace. I had Violet trapped right now, I just needed to know I had Esmeralda secured. I wasn't a bad guy, despite how it seemed. I was just desperate to have my stakes in something. I needed to have secure roots that would set me for life. Right now I was married to and had created an heir with the queen of one city and the promise of being king in another. Now that we were married, Violet trusted me enough to tell me all of her secrets. I knew all about Esmeralda from her point of view, so knew that Esmeralda had lied - or at least had spun the story to hook me. That didn't bother me though, because sometimes you had to lie in order to survive. That's why I didn't feel bad about doing it. Violet had expanded her magic with the power of both necklaces and had finally let me watch and be involved in it. She was breathtakingly powerful and it was hard to resist. I had to constantly remind myself of why I was here - of the end goal.

Every time I went back to see Esmeralda, the city was looking more and more elaborate. I had to pinch myself when I remembered I had steaks in it. It was hard to convince her I was still in, when I married Violet and then got her pregnant, but I had to ensure I was taking care of me. I was honestly a bit shocked that she still believed me. We had a strange relationship. I could tell she wanted more with me than what we had, but she was also selfish and wanted the kingdom more. I could see her appeal and found her beautiful but not irresistible. The only thing that was irresistible to me, was my future.
