Lilah's POV

I got to the Empire State building about half an hour early. I wanted to be the first one there, and I had some extra homework to get finished. I popped in some headphones under my mask and hung my legs off the side of the building. (Start playing music video now)

Then one of my favorite songs came on. Pulling my bag up next to me, I took out the 2 pages of mechanic homework that were assigned today and started working. I immediately relaxed because of the beautiful scenery around me. It made me feel like today might be okay, after I dealt with the whole Parker situation.

I wanna pick you up and scoop you out,
I want the secrets your secrets haven't found

Just out of habit, I started singing to the words while I worked. It was easy to work out the equations when the right side of my brain was occupied.

Paint me in trust,
I'll be your best friend
Call me the one,
This night just can't end
Oh

I was already 10 problems into the 25 questions assignment. I had forgotten how much I loved this song.

Will you share your soul with me?
Unzip your skin and let me have a see

I felt chills run up my neck as I listened closer to the music. I loved the chime parts in the back so much. This is why I loved music, it did so much to me.

Paint me in trust,
I'll be your best friend
Call me the one
This night just can't end
Oh oh,
I'm so human
We're just human

"You have quite the nice singing voice." I jolted as I heard the voice of the one and only Peter Parker come from behind me. I almost fell off the literal top of the Empire State building. My homework fell off my lap as I started to slightly fall off. I attached shot a web and grabbed it, then I felt something stick to my back and pull me further away from the edge. (you can stop it now if you'd like)

"Oh my God, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to scare you!" I turned around and looked up at him. He was standing right next to me as if he was ready to grab me at a moment's notice.

"It's totally fine, I should've been paying more attention around me. I had the sense that you were there, but I thought it was just the music giving me chills." I gave a small laugh and started to put my homework away.

He sat down next to me and pointed at the papers. "What are you working on?"

"Just some work for classes." I inwardly cringed at my fast reply. Now he's gonna know I'm a college student.

"Oh I have a lot of work to do, but I'm a little busy with some other things." He gestured down towards his suit.

"I understand that." I tried to pull out my cheap headphones but the right earbud got caught under my mask.

Without hesitation, he reached under the edge of my mask to pull out the earbud. I froze when his fingertips grazed the skin of my mask. I think he felt me freeze because his hand wavered a bit as well. "I promise I'm not pulling your mask off, I'm just grabbing the earbud."

He placed the small, round speaker in my hand. With a laugh, he said, "I have a feeling that you don't trust people very easily."

"Well, I was scared you were gonna find out my identity there for a second. And yeah, you're right. Trusting isn't really a natural instinct of mine."

"Speaking about identities... Why did you call me Peter?"

I turned towards him and pulled down my hood so I could see him clearly. "Don't act like you don't know who Peter is. It's you silly."

"Yeah I got that! But how did you figure it out?"

I stayed silent for a moment, struggling to find the right way to say how I knew him without revealing that I knew him personally. "Let's just say that I have a friend in one of your classes who comments on you being late to everything, all the time. I've also been told that you jump out of your seat, randomly, in the middle of class and leave. I do that all the time too, so does Miles, so it wasn't too hard to put together."

I looked at him, trying to gauge any reaction, "It might surprise you that I'm smarter than I look, Parker."

"Who is the friend that knows me?"

"See that, is restricted information. We wouldn't want you getting too close to finding out my identity." I leaned my head back and laughed as I looked out at the city. I turned to see Peter just staring at me.

"What is it? Do I have something on my mask?"

He pointed to my eyes, "How did you get them to do that? I've tried to figure out how to make the masks' eyes sync with my eyelid movement, but it hasn't ever worked."

"I could help you with it if you wanted. Maybe I could help you..." I took out my phone and looked at the time, Peter and I are supposed to meet in about 20 minutes to study. "Oh crap, I have to be somewhere." I didn't need him getting more suspicious of who I could be. "I'll help you with it another time."

I stood up and threw my backpack on my back. Standing on the edge of the building I turned back to Peter. He stood up and followed. "One thing before you go, I think it would be great if you started working with Miles and I. We could take out the biggest villains of this city, especially with your fighting skills."

I laughed, "Nice try there Parker. Rember, that's a little too much drama for me. I don't need a man dressed as the grinch on a flying scooter trying to find out who I am. And I work alone. Maybe in the future."

I pulled my hood back over my head, "See ya around Spidey." I lifted two fingers, saluted, and leaned off the side of the building. I now had the whole way home to mentally prepare myself for another long while of trying to hide my identity from Peter.

A/N: Sorry for the longer chapter, but I was trying to get a feel for Lilah and Peter's dynamic. I'm figuring it out as I go, just like you guys are, haha. Hope you liked it and have a good rest of your day/night! <3
